Tonight 2K Games is having a party at SF's Metreon to celebrate Sid Meiers being inducted into the Walk of Game, honoring his contribution to the industry. In light of the event, 2K Games today announced no less than 3 new titles developed, or based on, Sid Meiers franchises.

CivCity: Rome (http://www.worthplaying.com/article.php?sid=32718)

In CivCity: Rome, gamers will recreate the glory of Rome by building a small settlement into a mighty imperial city. Featuring hundreds of buildings including gladiatorial schools, amphitheatres, the circus maximus, legionnaire forts, weapons workshops and much more.
Sid Meier's Civilization IV: Warlords (http://www.worthplaying.com/article.php?sid=32716)

Civilization IV: Warlords pays homage to some of history's greatest military leaders, delivering six new scenarios, giving players the chance to change the course of history with the help of their new powerful "warlord" unit.
Sid Meier's Railroads! (http://www.worthplaying.com/article.php?sid=32714)

Combining the best of real-world and model railroads, Sid Meier's Railroads! puts you in charge of building your own railroad empire, running everything from steam-powered locomotives to more modern diesel and electric trains, managing cargo and your bottom line, all while engaging in corporate warfare against rival tycoons, slick entrepreneurs and robber barons.

Sid must be a very busy guy...

...selling his name out like that.

I desperately wish the Civ franchise would lean harder away from the combat-centric foundation it has always used as a crutch. Civ4 was a GREAT move in that direction, but an expansion centered around Warlords... *sigh*. How about an expansion centered around religious leaders? Or one that builds out the economic framework?

I think the Civ series has always done a remarkable job representing the course of war throughout history, but war is far from the only source of civilization's growth/change/death.

So basically Caesar, a Civ expansion, and Transport Tycoon/RailRoad Tycoon Redux?

Bleh.

Sid Meyer's Railroads just jumped to #1 on my most anticipated. Hate to admit that, considering all the good, flashy titles coming out this year. But his original EGA/VGA Railroad Tycoon I kept on my Windows 95 box until it died. Good times...good times...

I'll buy the Civ IV expansion, though it doesn't sound that interesting. CivCity: Rome doesn't sound as interesting as it could of been. Why focus on Rome? A game about building a city-state into an Empire would be good, if it were more broad and customizable. Of course, that's what Spore is for, huh? :p

Now I think I'm gonna go play Civ IV since I can't get my GRAW on until tomarrow.

How about another Alpha Centuri?

If Sid Meier's Railroads! are railroads in the wild west, that'd be cool.

hmm sad to admit but almost nothing from stuff mentioned in this news seems even remotely interesting.

I wish Sid would go more the way of innovation in gaming.

Also to the person that coined the phrase "The Civs" - Bravo - perfectly reflects the direction all this is going. ( Very sad though )

Bright side, it could've been "SidCity".

CivCity Rome??? Didn't they already do a game like that? It was called Ceaser and they're already on version 4 :P

At least come up with an original-ish idea!

I live 20 minutes away from the Metreon, where this thing is going to take place. Not going. The walk of fame thing is in a very empty, very little-foot-traffic part of the building, and I only walked through it on accident. If they added, say, playable games of what these people are famous for, then it might get somewhat popular.

Actually, I'll be around there in an hour and a half or so since I get my cigarettes near there, so maybe I'll stop by and see if they're doing anything new with it for tonight.

I second the motion for another Alpha Centauri. I think that game was the most provocative of all of the Civ games. The story and tech tree of that game alone was worth the price of admission; I just loved playing the game over and over just to see the secret project videos and listen to the quotes about the technologies.

If they could manage to give that sense of wonder to the sequel, I would be playing it for years to come. The problem is they set the bar so high with the first one, it would be very challenging to top it. I don't know how they could possibly come up with a new tech tree, but it sure would be cool if they did.

I'm another one looking forward to Railroads. The first Railroad Tycoon was on my hardrive for years as well, and the two Poptop sequels never quite did it for me. Although they were big graphical updates, they never did the control of the actual trains as good as the original.

Unfortunately, didn't Poptop just get merged with Firaxis? This means a lot of the people who worked on RT2 and 3 may be working on Railroads.

If they do Railroads! well, I'll be gone for months :(

The first one sucked many hours of my youth into it's hungry maw.

Railroads?! Damnit, where's Sid Meier's Ninjas! Followed by the sequel Sid Meier's Ninjas Vs Pirates!

I too will be excited to see Railroads again. Rome Civ? As Doyama pointed out - been there, done that. What can they bring new to it?

Get out of the formula, Sid.

We want groundbreaking games like Darklands and Master of Magic, not the anti-Caesar IV and Railroad Tycoon 4.

Sick, I just had this conversation today. Fucking-A for the Railroads thing though. Railroad sims are inexplicably awesome.

A little off-topic, but the Metreon in San Francisco is a pretty cool place to visit.

Now there are three titles I'd equate to a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.
