Assassin's Creed II will be released in about two weeks for the PC, complete with some great DRM that everyone hates. But in case you want to preorder through Steam (http://store.steampowered.com/app/33230/), that option is now available. It can be yours for the normal console price of $59.99.

Assassin’s Creed® 2 is the follow-up to the title that became the fastest-selling new IP in video game history. The highly anticipated title features a new hero, Ezio Auditore da Firenze, a young Italian noble, and a new era, the Renaissance.

Assassin’s Creed 2 retains the core gameplay experience that made the first opus a resounding success and features new experiences that will surprise and challenge players.

Assassin’s Creed 2 is an epic story of family, vengeance and conspiracy set in the pristine, yet brutal, backdrop of a Renaissance Italy. Ezio befriends Leonardo da Vinci, takes on Florence’s most powerful families and ventures throughout the canals of Venice where he learns to become a master assassin.

They really don't want people buying this game, do they?

It's almost funny, really.

I wonder if there will be a discernible point in which the attempts to combat piracy promote it. Oh wait, we're here.

Can Ubi confirm that the extra $10 premium is to pay for their shite DRM which will be cracked within days of, if not before, retail release?

Get the 360 version of the game. It's really very good - probably the most fun game I played last year, and I'm more of an RPG fan myself. Huge upgrade over Assassin's Creed 1.

Or rent it. Whatever. Just don't buy the PC version.

AC2, in general, was indeed a huge improvement over the first game... however by the end of the game it still felt a little long in the tooth. It was fun, but I certainly wouldn't put it over other games like Dragon Age.

ah, I see the hidden message

"Assassin’s Creed 2 is an epic story of family"

The console version is $39.99 at most places around me. I have Verizon Wireless internet and it likes to go out from time to time, so fuck the PC version. I don't support piracy in general, but I have a different view on this game.

I really liked the first one (go figure -- I've got a master's in Medieval English literature and my master's thesis focused on an epic romance about Richard Lionheart in the Crusades), and have been eagerly awaiting the sequel's arrival on the PC, but crap DRM and price have pretty much shoved it over to the "Wait till it's much cheaper and the stupid DRM has been patched away" list.

So, a random $10 premium AND DRM that would make the game unbelievably awkward to play?

I'll wait till the $5 steam sale, and even then only if that shit-tastic DRM is gone or at least subdued.

Even GoGamer jacked their price up. I pre-ordered it from them for $39.90 about a month ago. Now it's $55 for a pre-order.

/Rolls up sleeves, puts on his peg leg and grabs his parrot

Hoist the main sail lads! This be a fine day for pirating.

Tho I am way too busy playing Fallen Earth to really bother with yet another single player game atm anyway.

Does this include the DLC thats now available on 360? Is that why its a stupid price? BTW I've played the 360 version and loved it, one of the best games all year. I like it so much I got the first of the DLC for it but, even though it was fairly cheap. I'd done it about 20 mins. UBI are taking the piss lately, plus now there's this DRM thing, not supprised the PC gamers amoungst us are not happy. Worth playing though which ever why you get it *coughs* torrent.

I won't buy this. I won't pirate it either, but I bet a lot of people will because they're pissed off at the DRM.

Wow...60 on top of the DRM? Does it come with a vial of poison I can take to assassinate myself?

They really don't want people buying this game, do they?Apparently not. I can't think of anything off-hand that would make it less appealing at this point.

I liked the first one even though there was zero replay value and it dragged on at times. Even before the DRM fiasco I had no plans to buy it at full price. Now I'm going to wait and see how the DRM pans out and check back when it hits the $20 mark.

Terrible DRM and a sixty dollar price tag means no buy for me! Bummer really cause I was looking forward to this and Splinter Cell.

And, sadly, the vast majority of uninformed gamers will still buy this and eat the consequences.

lockwoodx, you out PA'd the PA guys :)

That was funny, and definitely the comic they should have made :)

As for the pirated version of AC2, I reckon it will take a while; it'll be trivial to set up a client side server and redirect the hosts file for the Ubisoft server to point to your pc, but they'll need to reverse engineer the network traffic too. I don't doubt it will be done, because it will mean all Ubisoft games using this form of DRM will be cracked, but it will take a while.

As for me: I'll wait untill the pirates crack the DRM and buy the game then (for much cheaper than it is now). It's funny that I have to wait for the pirates to enjoy a legal product.
Kinda like that chart which went up recently on the difference between watching a legal dvd and a torrented movie. Sad, really. Almost just as fucked up as the warnings in cinema's....you pay your money, you're in the theater and they tell YOU what's illegal, when a pirate won't even see that shit.
