Bethesda wants to remind you that Oblivion will be released on the 20th of this month. It's imperative that you do no forget.

Now now, I know that it isn't something you particularly want to do, but regardless, you have to. You n' me, we helpless.

6 days to go (http://elderscrolls.com/downloads/media_movies.htm) - count them on your fingers, write them down, etch them to your body, chant them 1000 times a day, remember to maintain bodily functions when the clock strikes 0. Paramedics are standing by.

-ps 3 new 360 screenshots (http://www.elderscrolls.com/art/obliv_xbox360_screens_01.htm) for the possessive soul... I mean the chronically forgetful.

I'm going to cry for months on end if this doesn't turn out to be the savior gamers have been waiting for.

You need to turn the sword around before thrusting.

You know, I've been thinking what it is that made Oblivion such a "must buy," that it's almost narcotic-like...

Then I realized: It's exactly this.

I kind of felt that way about Morrowind. I know, I know, blasphemy. Before you burn me at the stake, hear me out. I played the game for a looong time, and I kept waiting for it to get better. Combat was pretty crap. The NPC's were soulless quest vending machines with almost zero personality, with a few possible exceptions. I recall the colors being very bland- seeing cities that could have been, with a few palette and other tweaks, very memorable and beautiful. Overall the game seemed very bland, overhyped, and empty. At one point I uninstalled all of the mods I had and played the game in its original form, and it was much, much worse. I had no idea how few monsters there really were when there weren't player-created ones in there.

I didn't hate it, get that torch away from me. I wanted to like it much more than I did. I did like the openness of it- that I could join the Mages and Assassin's guild, explore tombs I wandered across, leap across rooftops, etc. Many of the armors, such as glass and daedric, were very nicely done. I just felt that overall it had some really good ideas that for the most part were poorly executed.

Never said anything much before because I seemed to be in an extremely small minority, but *shrugs* I figure hardly anyone will read this, and I needed to vent.

I'm really hoping Oblivion is incredibly good. Don't do me wrong, Beth.

I'm actually mostly with you there on Morrowind, ProfPuppet. It was never OMG SUPER FUN, and combat sucked.

Main reason I'm looking forward to Oblivion so much is that it's looking like more of everything I liked, and most of the stuff I didn't like has been addressed.

If it were another Morrowind expansion with those graphics, I wouldn't be interested. The gameplay changes are much too important.

Oblivion? What?

I'm holding out for Tetris and Metroid. The 21st is gonna be a black Tuesday in gamer's pockets.

I never finished the main quest in Morrowind, but I did finish one of the expansion packs for some reason. I just got bored with it and the damn requirements were too high for my computer at the time (which, I now recall, is why the expansion pack got finished - after an upgrade). I'm definitely getting the new one (and I'm upgrading again), but hell, it is certainly not the be all end all. Hoping they worked some on the NPC's to make the world seem a little more alive.

I wonder if I'll be a Kajit again (best thieving abilities!). I don't want to be, those bastards are constantly enslaved or treated like crap. And in the capital province, I think I might prefer being an Imperial...or Redguard. I like the Redguards. Still, they're a bit dumb for me. Funny how every race has its pros and cons. And TES elves always look a bit too gay for my liking. Too narrow of a head or something, like pixies. And the reptile creatures are too ugly.

Sigh, what to do, what to do. Probably will spend a day with the character creator goddamnit, just like Morrowind.

Anyway.
I always ending up playing as a dark elf. Elfs looked dumb, High elfs looked okish, Most of the humans were either dumb or boring looking, I wanted to be a nord but the faces sucked, I started as an argonian and then a saw the walking animation, Also they cant wear shoes, neither could kajit. And dark elfs had a couple of reasonable head textures, so I went with them.
Man I'm picky

/sigh.. I have a feeling my school work is going to start slacking a bit next week... Cant wait, the graphics look amazing and yeah.. woo, Christmas comes early this year, for some reason I am really excited about this game.. am I allowed to call the professors and say im need to take a couple days off? hmmm hehe.

Me too. I've been pre-designing my character (yeah you heard me. So what?) these past few days, and the race really comes down to which face i can make look best. With all these options in the face editor, I'll probably spend a good two hours just making my character.

I really think that facegen system is going to be a mixed blessing.

There is nothing wrong (http://home.wnm.net/~bgriff/MW_NordM.html) with the Nord faces (http://home.wnm.net/~bgriff/MW_NordF.html).

As for the Khajiit, slavery is outlawed in the Empire but Vvardenfell was a backwater and Dunmer aren't the nicest bunch, hence slavery.

Yes, this was all in game for those who took notice instead of scothing how it wasn't a real RPG

As for facegen, argh, I hate that stuff. I can never get anything to look right, I'd much prefer to just have an artist do it for me because s/he'd be way better at it.

Is it just me or has the graphical beauty of this game been significantly toned down?? The grounds look quite bland and flat..textures look quite washed out..even some of the models probably look blocky..almost like a farcry from the e3 vids. I certainly can't be alone??

Realistic expectations are a must for people who follow the development of games. The people who have built this up in their minds as the best-game-ever-made-omg!!! are just setting themselves up for disapointment of Fable-like proportions.

I was looking at the box for the PC version in the store yesterday and, sadly, my computer doesn't even meet the minimum specs. Sigh. I've officially fallen behind the curve.

I will definately get Oblivion, but it looks like it'll have to wait until sometime closer to Christmas when I finally get my computer upgraded. I'll just be happy with my copy of Tetris DS instead. I COULD get an Xbox 360, but then I'd have to get a new TV and according to my wife, that just isn't happening.

As for people complaining that it's not going to be an RPG.. ARGH! I just finish having a huge discussion (http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/showpost.php?p=218501&postcount=124) with people on the FFXII boards about JRPG's not being RPG's and then we have people on the Elder Scrolls boards saying that THEY are not RPG's. Sure, the NPC interaction in Morrowind left a lot to be desired, but as far as encapsulating what the purists expect from an RPG, you can't do much better than Elder Scrolls (or Fallout or Gothic).

Sigh... it never ends...

As someone with slightly more then a passing interest in horseback riding I have to say those animations are the best I've seen in a video game. Of course they are pretty damn far from perfect, or even good. But since most video games don't even try to make realistic horse animations I have to give the oblivion guys props for at least figuring out where the horse has muscles and where they don't.

The odd thing is that they must have used dressage horses as their template. That wierd way the horses kick up their front feet is not typical for most horses, but you see it a lot when you start getting into the fancy riding circles.

If it plays like Morrowind I'm going to be so disappointed.

The problem with waiting for reviews, is that the reviews for Morrowind were mostly positive. Hopefully there will be a review that does some comparisons with both games, because personally, I don't buy games around hype anymore. I've learned my lesson when I purchased Morrowind and the original Black & White.

One of the best things to do when it comes to making a decisions, wait for a gamer friend to buy the game and watch him play it for a while. ;) That's what I've been doing and it works out great. Ha!

I can't wait for this game to come out already so the annoying fanboys will just shut up about it. And CAD will stop running that unoriginal shitty arc.

Klade, if you want to see fantastic horse animations and combat on horseback (swords, lances, axes, etc) check out Mount & Blade. Bethesda said combat on horseback was too one sided and made it unfair.. M&B shows how not only is it possible, it's fun as hell and it's not unbalancing. I beat up many warriors while on foot as they tried to lance me from horseback. The only problem with M&B at the moment is there's really no plot at all.. seems more of a tech demo to me. It was worth it to check out the demo though (it only lets you get to level 6, but that's plenty of time to play around in the arena).

-edit-
Oh, incase anyone thinks I'm a shill or something.. I never bought M&B.. not enough of a game there for my taste. It was just fun to play around with it and kill time waiting for Oblivion.

We are talking about Bethesda here they are notorious in releasing games full of bugs Morrowind anyone? Broken quests etc. Not as bad as RIP "Troika Games" god bless them all. So i just want it bug free such as installation some sort of stability and please no broken quests. Also they are releasing it on console so it should be kinda ok.

They are releasing it on a console that is just made for downloading patches onto though...

In a game as huge, open-ended and customizable as the Elder Scrolls games are, I'm expecting bugs and broken quests as there are bound to be instances where things arise that weren't planned for.

As long as the patches are speedy, that's fine. Now, if they have something akin to the Myth 2 uninstall bug... that is unacceptable.

You'd think so, but unfortunately Morrowind GOTY for the Xbox was just as buggy as the PC version. I had it crash on me three times in a week before I just gave up playing it. Crashes are entirely unacceptable, and I generally quit after the second one.
