Holy shit! No more strings tuning/popping and it looks like something out of a 50's sci fi! I hope this doesn't cost 5000 grand or something.

Yeah, but you can modify what it sounds like. He just chose a heavy distortion.

Pretty cool, touch sensitive guitar is how rockband/guitar hero should have been would be better cause then it could teach you all the instruments.

I doubt it. Guitar Hero "pro's" hate anything that is too close to real guitars.

I could see something like that happening for the next gen music games, but the cost is going to be insane.

You're all crazy. I've never seen something nerdier than this, and anyone trying to play it in public deserves to be laughed at :P
That rant assumes this is a 'real' guitar replacement. If this is just supposed to be an ultimate guitar-hero controller then fine, whatever. But that doesn't seem to be what this is.

The guy wants this guitar as a MIDI controller. But one can only dream about a digital guitar one day. The same way people were laughing at the electric guitar when it first came out.

Electric guitars still have strings that vibrate? A guitar (non gaming) without strings is an instrument that had the life and soul sucked out out it. That doesn't mean it can't or won't sound good, it just means its not a guitar =P

Infrared lazer strings...are the future. It is a good thing I am not a believer of souls. :)

This would be a pretty incredible boon to DJs and various electronic music groups. It doesn't improve on traditional electric guitars, it simply does something different with a similar body.

That's funny as hell, because the lead singer/guitarist for Muse uses something very similar. Youtube it.

See, with a digital piano you can do everything on it a real piano can do. Not so with a digital guitar. A guitar is much closer to the metal than a piano. We're talking fingers on actual strings, with nuances and interactions possible that can't be digitally replicated. You can't perform harmonics, for instance.

Yes. This would help that awful rave music a little...plus I would have an excuse to use this and ecstasy.

I found nothing of the sort. Their youtube lead-showcase has lead-singer Bellamy using a traditional stringed guitar:
http://www.youtube.com/user/muse
Their wiki entry (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muse_%28band%29#Musical_style) also mentions nothing about a keytar or the like.
I could see an intrument like this being used in fringe electronica circles, maybe raves too, but it's in no danger of supplanting a real guitar in the mainstream.

I suppose it may make sense for a midi controller, although i'm not sure why you'd want to us it. It looks harder to play than an electric guitar and doesn't sound as good. But offers the ability to map keystrokes into software.

the next phase for guitar media games is to actually teach the player guitar skills they can apply in the real world.

Electric guitar connected to an amp or this...Electric Guitar. With this thing you have to program things into it. Also how can it tell when you need to strum the guitar or just tap it? Oh wait it can't...(now that I have seen the vid many times over...) This plays similar to a guitar but fails as a whole, wouldn't mind getting one though. It just...looks like a clone would use one of these you know...or very sci-fi.

Uses the same midi-controlled screen, but uses strings on the neck. Screen is fully intrigrated, in that you don't actually have to strum to produce sound. It's essentially a fully electronic instrument.

I know it's not the exact same instument (which is why I said "very similar" in my original post), but it uses the exact same midi technology. And when he started talking about how it was uber-nerdy, you'd be laughed at if you used it on stage, and that it'd never be used by a main stream band...well I just wanted to punch a hole in that theory.

You would be laughed at for using a stringless guitar such as that shown in this thread. Pulling up a stringed / normal guitar with a touchscreen addon doesn't punch a hole in the theory at all.

Still string based. You gave the impression it was much more like the thing shown in this thread, stringless. This just looks like a normal guitar with an addon.

Good christ you're a stubborn ass.
If after all those linked videos you're still going off like you are, then you're well past the point of trolling.
I said they were "very similar". And if you had any clue about what you were talking about, you would agree because the Misa guitar is basicly the next generation of the M1D1. Hell, the name M1D1 was actually from a mistake when a customer misread the word "midi", which is the exact same technology as the Misa guitar uses. I'm sorry it doesn't pass your no-string litmus test.

I'm not trolling you. All I'm saying is that having strings or not is the essential question when it comes to ridicule or not. No one's ever going to take a stringless guitar seriously. Then you come around saying, "Oh yeah, what about this guitar" and proceed to show me a guitar that has strings. So, I continue to fail to see your point. If you had showed me a band using a stringless guitar I would've conceded the point.
