And it's not pretty... (http://www.gamespot.com/xbox360/action/aliensvspredatorworkingtitle/review.html)

It's the little things that really drag the game down. Aliens vs. Predator seems to be a well-meaning attempt at reinvigorating a languishing series, but grotesque kills and some entertaining multiplayer moments don't cut it--not when so many slick and exciting shooters are on store shelves, vying for your time. The attention to detail, the well-considered level design, and the sense of momentum that characterize the finest shooters are missing here. Aliens vs. Predator is sometimes enjoyable but never escapes an overwhelming sense of carelessness, so while it may remind you of the good old days, it fails to recapture them.

I like how only the negative reviews get posted on here:rolleyes:

IGN UK gave it a very respectable 8.5 http://uk.xbox360.ign.com/articles/106/1068446p1.html

IGN Closing Comments

The three species set-up feels generous even at a time when people demand so much of their games, but it's a premise that dates back to Rebellion's first Aliens vs. Predator in 1994. While much has changed it still feels a little rusty – this isn't as slick as a Modern Warfare or Halo and its production values feel like they're from a different age, with poor textures and the occasional unimaginative set-piece belying the fact that underneath the HD dazzle is a core idea that's changed little in over 15 years. But that never truly detracts from how much fun is to be had throughout Aliens vs. Predator's myriad modes as Rebellion leans heavily on the source material, creating a game that's going to stoke the hearts of anyone who ever fell in love with the original films – which is likely anyone who's ever picked up a game pad.

I have said time and time again that I had really positive hopes for this game. I think they really tried to do a good job but there were some technical issues that really made the game play fall flat for me.

HOWEVER, I think that when it comes to issues like that this day and age, there is no reason Rebellion couldn't patch the game for both 360 and PC now that it's on the shelf, much like they did to the demo after there were complaints post-release.

I agree with IGN's statement that it feels like a valiant effort that just can't stand up compared to similar games on the shelf that are more polished.

Overall, that list looks like its getting an overall rating of, "not too shabby."
Based purely off of these numbers, its probably worth looking into for a fan of the series.

I still have the taste of fresh shit in my mouth from the demo. I think I said it before but this is an FPS for non FPS fans.

I wouldn't say that, I am an FPS fan, but I am also an Aliens and Predator fan. I picked this game up (Downloading at the moment). The demo was flawed indeed, deathmatch was the wrong choice for sure, and the combat mechanics (especially melee) took a bit of getting used to but I still enjoyed it greatly.

In the demo there was a texture of some alien "goo" with some tubes n shit coming down from the wall, on the floor and then FADING into the floor texture. It was weird to see such lazy, incompetent mapping work while at the same time admiring the awesome Predator claw weapons...

Based on that list, it's tracking a composite score of around 74%. Not at all a bad game, despite what some of the cherry-picked-and-posted reviews on here would seem to indicate.

Looks like its an average FPS. My brother picked it up and played it a bit, so I plan on stopping over to check it out and see if its worth a purchase.

I want this game to be good... I need this game to be good...I'm a huge fan of the AVP series.... flawed as some parts may be...

Anyway.... I'll be picking this up later next month... (cash huh?) and I'll enjoy myself with it... I just hope that it does well enough to get aliens: colonial marines of the ground... (even if it would be a L4D clone....it would still be with aliens!)

Heh, IGN and OXM.

Truth.

The good reviews are enough for me to give it a shot though.

Stopped reading at: "hold right trigger to..."

Is it too much to ask that previously PC titles at least get control reviews with mouse and fucking keyboard usage too? Yeah, I know, noone gives a fuck about the PC anymore. /sigh

Everyone is dumping on it, but the game is MADE to be the same with better graphics. It was never meant to be ground-breaking or new. LOL... I for one am looking forward to it.

Since this game isn't looking like it's the bee's knees everyone was hoping for, I recommend that you all go out and play Ace Attorney: Investigations instead.
Sure, it's not even in the same genre or available on the same platform, but it came out on the same day. It's a valid comparison.

IGN has just weighed in giving the game a 7.0 (http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/106/1069693p1.html)

I also am a fan of the franchise and am downloading as i type. I can live with a 7-ish average score. I wish it was higher, but a 7-ish will serve well enough for some fresh Alien/Marine/Predator carnage.

Now, let's hope Sega pulls the stick out of their ass and get Colonial Marines back on it's previously stellar-looking development track.

Pretty clear pattern here; the British sites/mags say it is good, the US sites say it is crap. Now I wonder where the developer is based? Oh yeah, in Britain. Guess they must have good parties.

This is entirely different from the prequels. In fact, they took what was great about the prequels, and threw it out the window. This is a downgrade.

And it's really a shame. Being a big fan of Aliens (and of the old AvP games), I wanted to like this game, but my fanboyism could not blind me. They just blew it.

Maybe they forgot to tell us Stateside that it plays better with a cup of tea in-hand.

The game feels quite retro&clunky, but is fun nevertheless. The 360 version runs on a very low resolution, but they make up for that with fantastic foggy lighting. Especially the marines campaign captures the "alien feeling" very well. Damn that motion tracker that clearly indicates a facehugger in the next room, but you can't detect where it's hiding. Neato!

Playing as the alien is either highspeed chasing thru corridors or those Batman:AA scenes where you hide on the ceiling and take out enemies on by one.

Also, each campaign mostly uses the same basic 6 maps with additional routes per species. While thats fun in most maps, it sucks on those two arena-style maps.

But if you're not interested in the setting, it's nothing to write home about. I guess it ends up in the bargain bin quite soonish.
