To promote the upcoming release of Command & Conquer 4, EA is now offering Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tiberian_sun) (a.k.a. C&C 2) and its expansion Firestorm as free downloads here (http://www.commandandconquer.com/classic).

I should add that the same page has free downloads for Command & Conquer (the original game) and Red Alert, in case you missed them earlier.

Ah good stuff. Game wasn't anything innovative, but I liked it - was more of the same I guess. Some of the FMV sequences were pretty amusing.

Tiberian Sun, although not my favorite C&C game, WAS innovative.
It was a totally new engine developed for the series (which would also later be used for both Red Alert 2 and Yuri's Revenge) which had a totally new isometric viewpoint.
Also, it was the first RTS engine to use the Mega VoxelŽ
technology, which was Westwood's-developed tech for rendering pixels with height, width and depth.
Lastly, if your a C&C fan, you can't deny that taking the story into such a futuristic realm was a major break. I thought it was actually a very good game, but nothing like Red Alert. Red Alert blew me away.
*Good find Sarconix!

Ah! My favorite game in the C&C series! I've bought it probably 3 times by now.
Now I won't have to worry about finding those old CD's again.

Too bad they don't run under Vista (according to the websites).

We played the shit out of Tiberium Sun back in college. Generally, the matches would last three hours due to our self imposed rules of a time limit before attacking and no harvester attacking, but it was a lot of fun.

Even though a lot of people didn't like this one, I enjoyed it.
This is the only game in the series I never played (not counting expansions). I'm excited to try it out now.

Another thing about this mini-series is that this was the last game (including expansion) that the C&C realm would deal with "terrain smoothing" as in Dune so you could speed up troop movement and harvesting time.
I wish more games had this element.

Red Alert is one of my favorite games of all time. My cousin that lived down the street and I would actually play over 56k modem. God I miss dial-up.

Hmm...okay, I'll give it a shot. Was this for all the free C&C games listed on their site, or just the ones they most recently offered for free?
