According to a story on CNET (http://news.cnet.com/8301-27076_3-20000054-248.html?part=rss&tag=feed&subj=Crave), Netflix is planning on bringing 5.1 surround sound and closed captioning to its streaming service. Originally reported as bringing full HD (1080p), that has since been debunked and Netflix does not have plans on streaming that way this year.

Editors' note, 4:30 p.m. PST: Netflix now claims that it incorrectly acknowledged 1080p streaming in the company's 2010 development road map. A Netflix representative has clarified that the company plans to bring 5.1 surround and closed captioning to its streaming HD videos later this year, though 1080p Watch Instantly is not on the books for this year. The text below is the original story, based on earlier conversations and e-mails with this Netflix representative.

How about bringing movies that aren't 20 years old and don't suck?

I've been happy with the service and the selection recently. This is good news.

I gotta agree with Yutt, the stream choices are pretty old. Although I did just stream the version of 1984 with John Hurt that was filmed during the time the book actually took place. John hurt is awesome.

Other than that, it's all old.

That version of 1984 is brilliant. It's hands down the best ever adaptation of a book into a movie.

And what a way for Richard Burton to go out.

I think the streaming section has been pretty well improved. Sure it could be better but its pretty much a throw in IMO especially if you get the 2 or 3 dvd's out at a time plan.

I completely agree. I use the service, but would love to use it for more things than to get my 8 year old caught up on all the movies I enjoyed when I was a kid.

I would be willing to pay extra if I could stream new releases and give up mailing disks.

I second this! I use netflix all the damn time through Windows Media Center and if I could download a better selection I'd pay for it.

I find the odd selections of streaming movies forces me to watch a lot of great movies that I might have otherwise skipped if I had to wait for the DVD.

Though, I would love to be able to drop the mailing portion of NetFlix in exchange for streaming new releases.

I just don't like getting my lazy ass off the couch to change disks.

Didn't EA used to automatically edit out 'Kotaku' when cited in any post? I seem to remember it becoming ****** in the past.
