The Hills have Eyes was pretty intense. My girlfriend had to walk out during the burning at the stake/rape scene, therefore I had to follow. Personally, I thought it did a pretty good job with the creepiness and whatnot but it started to suck when they showed them too much. Did it get any better after that scene?

It was abysmal.

The violence only escalated from there. If your girlfriend couldn't handle the scene you mentioned, she would not have enjoyed the rest of the movie.

Overall a decent movie. Good splatter effects and gruesome violence.

Good to see Hills at #3, I am going to see it this week. Alexandre Aja is very talented, can't wait to see his take on Hills and his future films.

Not that anyone cares, but they said that it was supposed to be in the New Mexico desert. I'm from the New Mexico desert and this movie was filmed somewhere else. Probably Nevada or Eastern California.

Why do they put all the freaks in my home state?

Get a new girlfriend, I wouldve broken up with her right there. Riiiight, because a woman who is uncomfortable watching a depiction of a violent rape scene is completely uncommon and unacceptable. I can only hope you're kidding.

I did, but my girlfriend forced me to leave during the violent burning at the stake/rape scene.

I wonder how many girlfriends walked out of Shaggy when the idiot Tim Allen turned into a dog. Total shutdown of brain cells.

The Hills Have Eyes was awful. Nothing scary, nothing creepy, nothing effective. But then again this is the director of High Tension which also was neither scary, creepy and had an ending that shit on the whole movie.

None of the charcters were any good, let alone smart. If the daughter was raped, she sure didn't act like anything happened after the fact. Glasses boy was made out to be a puss from the begining, with ZERO redeaming values as he bad mouths his in-laws, then his wife and leers at the young daugther, love how the movie glosses over all this, then suddenly turns into a bad ass? LOL. The son was the only one character that was effective in any way.

And why was Ruby different than any of the others? Why did she care one way or another for the family?

The reason the original did so we well was at that time, there was nothing else like it or even done like it and that is what made it special. The remake has none of this, I mean how could it, it's a remake. Anyone see the remake of The Fog? I didn't think anything could be worse than than, until this.

If you want to see how to do a GREAT modern day exploitation movie go see Hostel or anything by Miike. If you have money to burn and not much choice, go see UltraViolet. If you don't have much money, go rent the original.

I agree with pretty much everything Hellstorm said. I didnt think the hills was any good at all - none of the 'bad guys' were that scary and at times were almost laughable.

Go see it at a matinee if you have to.

I was completely with you until you said that. Seriously, recommending something from the guy who brought us Cabin Fever?

I think a better choice in this case would be to actually set fire to your dollar bills. It will be much more entertaining.

So, without spoiling it, is Ultraviolet any good?

I tell you what, I didn't hate UltraViolet, but its easily forgettable after watching it. My brother pointed out that they stole one scene completely from Lone Wolf and Cub.

Just so I can get the visual on this, they burned someone at the stake and then raped them, or raped them and then burned them at the stake, or was it simultaneous? I'm also getting that Tim Allen, Tyler Perry, and some Moroccans were involved?

They must have some really messed up parties in New Mexico, where all those freaks are from.

Burns pretty colorssss...

And yes, I could take a leak on the reel of The Hills Have Eyes and make it a better movie. The music alone was horribly selected. What the hell was with that victory jazz at the end? It's a damn horror movie, you don't let them strut around to a melody reminiscent of going ten rounds with Mr. T.

Cabin Fever sucked. I hated that movie but I am willing to give writer/directors chances. I walked into Hostel saying, "I hope this doesn't suck like Cabin Fever." and it didn't. Roth did a great job in making a smart, modern day exploitation movie.

But to even say that Aja's Hills is a better all around movie than Hostel just because the writer/director is the guy that did Cabin Fever and not taking the great work he did with Hostel into consideration is wrong. Does Cameron suck becuase he is the guy that gave us Pirahna 2: The Spawning? I don't think so. Roth is 1 for 1 in my book, while Aja is 0 for 2.

Many people have tried to do a modern exploitation flick; from Rob Zombie to Bay. They all have failed because all their characters were to be honest, fucking stupid, not developed enough for us to even care what happens to them.

As far as the other poster, he seems to agree with me Hostel >>>>> Hills Remake.

Yeah, that was laughable as well, but I think that the little victory sounding music was also done in the original, of course that was in the late 70's which could explain that.

Hmm, I think that means me, and truth betold, I kind of forget you had said that bit about Hostel. I actually haven't seen it - I heard it was well done, but really not my type of movie. I dont really enjoy paying money to torture myself.

But I do agree that hills sucked balls.

Ugh, just look at this list! Most of them are remakes or IPs!

Part of me wants to see Failure to Launch, just because I have a soft spot for SJP. I hate Matthew though, and I'm sure it is not a good film.
