Gamesradar got their hands-on Brink and wrote about it here (http://www.gamesradar.com/pc/brink/preview/brink-hands-on/a-2010020211255989073/g-20090529114136296046). Dedicated servers confirmed! (for PC, not confirmed yet for consoles)

Spies are in!
“The Operative class has an ability they can earn to uncover enemy Operatives who are in disguise as well,” explains Ham, “so if you’re on a server where another player disguises themselves as somebody on your team, you get a mission to go and track him down.

Mutual buffing is encouraged!
“One of the cool things about playing online,” claims Stern, “is the cooperation. So the very first time you play, and somebody buffs your health, you’ll get a message telling you that you can buff him back, and immediately your team is better off as a result of that. It was a facepalm moment when we wondered why we hadn’t thought of doing this earlier, but we’ve designed it so it costs two pips to buff yourself and one to buff a teammate. Straight away that makes it worth seeking out a teammate and doing that to one another.”

Oh, and if you look closely at the image above, you will notice that it shows buffed individuals who are not just long, but wide as well! There are were some great new screenshots over there but it seems they've been taken down. :(

This is really shaping up, as far as I can tell. They're taking influence from a lot of different games, and that's all the better for them.

That makes no sense. You shouldn't break the laws of reality just to encourage a gameplay mechanic :P

There's nothing that costs less if used on another rather than myself. That's a fundamental rejection of reality.

But when you are buffed you get a temporary 50% reduction in buff cost.

You are being sarcastic, right? :) In the event that you aren't:

As a principle, gameplay should always trump simulation in games, unless the game itself is a simulator.

As for a specific example in games, aside from almost every other aspect of game design, how does friendly-fire off make any sense?

Ultimately, as regards this game, it actually is more realistic for a medic to be able to heal others more quickly and completely than themselves. How difficult is it to bandage your own abdomen when you yourself are unconscious? What about putting your own leg in a splint, especially when one of your arms is also broken? As for the other classes, anything packed on one's back is more easily accessed by someone else. Aside from the fundamental principle of good game design, within its the game's own circumstances it is more realistic to help each other.

Changing the subject, I found in my browser cache, the screenies that GamesRadar took down. I would never have had interest in posting them, if they hadn't removed them. Complete with watermarks, here are 5 of the 14.

One (http://thestranded.files.wordpress.com/2010/02/brink-1.jpg), Two (http://thestranded.files.wordpress.com/2010/02/brink-2.jpg), Three (http://thestranded.files.wordpress.com/2010/02/brink-3.jpg), Four (http://thestranded.files.wordpress.com/2010/02/brink-4.jpg), Five (http://thestranded.files.wordpress.com/2010/02/brink-5.jpg).

Pretty cool, imo, and the "heavy" breaks the elongated mold of all previous characters shown.

I like these guys and really want their game to succeed.

Automatic buy even if I never play it.

Saw this game at Eurogamer expo; it's a refined game style that we've all already played in one form or another with added XP.

Looks good, might pick it up.

Seems like another multiplayer only title from a team whose multiplayer only titles all suck ass. Pass. Next.

Wow, a bit heavy on the vitriol? Your comment really surprised me as Splash Damage, I thought, was a decent company.

I thought Wolf:ET was fun for a free mplayer only game. RoCW was also fun especially the multiplayer: it was simplistic but still enjoyable from a retro deathmatch perspective. I agree that Doom3 sucked but they only developed the multiplayer aspects of it. I, like many other people, were put of by the SP experience of doom 3 that we never got around to the multiplayer for it.

As far as I can tell, Doom 3 multiplayer was a tack-on, and the single-player experience was the most time-consuming aspect.

Oh yeah, Doom 3 Multi sucked ass.

Quake Wars multiplayer is really well put together.

Sheesh, Evil! LOL

I am hopeful (http://thestranded.wordpress.com/2010/02/05/the-importance-of-story-for-mp-games/) that this game will be good.

In the meantime, I think you are misinformed as regards this "team". Splash Damage has only three titles (http://www.metacritic.com/search/process?sort=relevance&termtype=all&ts=splash+damage&ty=3&button=search) to their name, and the craptastic port of ET:QW for the 360 was NOT their work. Furthermore, the Creative Director for Brink is Richard Ham, responsible for Syphon Filter 1 and 2 and Fable 2.

W:ET has a HUGE PC following, so perhaps it doesn't suck ass. Or, if it does, perhaps it just isn't the flavor of ass you are used to. :D

"Buffing" to be able to take more bullets or shoot harder or w/e doesn't make any sense to begin with. I don't get what you're complaining about.

Also, your signature is a fundamental rejection of reality.
