In the category of "I hope they burn in hell.", the official Playstation.Blog has word (http://blog.us.playstation.com/2010/01/heavy-rain-goes-gold-demo-coming-february-11/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+PSBlog+%28PlayStation.Blog%29 ) that Quantic Dream's QTE adventure game, Heavy Rain, has Gone Gold.

It’s official! Heavy Rain has now gone gold in North America and is off to manufacturing. This PlayStation 3 exclusive, psychological thriller will be available at retail on Tuesday, February 23, 2010 (mark it on your calendar). Don’t forget to pre-order your copy now so you will receive the first chapter of Heavy Rain Chronicles (upcoming downloadable-only episodes for Heavy Rain) at no cost, and you’ll be able to download the first chapter once you’ve picked up your copy of Heavy Rain (otherwise, all others will need to pay $4.99 per chapter and won’t be able to download until a month later — more info to come on Heavy Rain Chronicles).

I hope they burn in hell. Did I mention that part?

Sorry, why the burninating? You hope that because of the DLC model? Maybe that moves a game off your buy list, but hell burning, isn't that extreme?

I think the developers need to spend some quality time with the South Park Woodland Critters.

I think I've pretty much decided to pre-order the game after the recent trailer and the 2 reviews out so far (not from the most reputable but.... eh). Though I hope more reviews trickle out by the time I go to buy Bioshock 2, which is when I'd pre-order this game.

The whole 'Heavy Rain Chronicles' DLC thing bugs me in the way that movies with open endings for sequels bugs me. You have to pay money for the "episode" without a conclusion (I'm assuming?) and you get blue balled until they finish out the plot line. Hopefully each episode contains a significant amount of content :\

Buying this game will be worth it to see Sarah Palin and Co. get into a hissy fit on Fox News about "evil" video games.

If it's like Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy, then that stuff will just get cut out for US release.

Originally I was pretty interested. Now, not so much.

First of all, I'm incredibly sick of all the pr whoring this company has been doing. It's worse than Dante's Inferno. For a while, every other day brought a new Heavy Rain story. I'm sick of it.

When I heard about the DLC plans, I was pretty ticked off, and I couldn't understand why they would be holding back content rather than trying to launch a new IP with the best looking package possible. But then it hit me. It's not just the sales of DLC content. It's much worse. I think that they have realized that the game is pretty shallow and will get sold back to stores pretty fast, which will cannibalize their new game sales. The DLC is an attempt to get people to not sell back their discs.

Personally, I'd have much more faith in a game that prevented resales by offering such a compelling game that people won't want to get rid of it in 24 hours.

^^I'm sorry, but 'shallow'? This game might be accused of many negative things, but you'll have to explain how 'shallow' is one of them.

I'd actually call a non-linear plot (you can literally kill your main characters off, and the storyline will adjust around it), innovative gameplay, and groundbreaking visuals anything BUT 'shallow'. Do explain your gripes, Sir Bickles.

The DLC is optional, from every source that I can find about Heavy Rain. If you want extra content, pay for it. If not-- don't. I don't see why HR should be punished when practically ever other new game coming out also offers DLC as well. You aren't just playing favorites with your criticism here, are you??

If you only play through this game once and "want to get rid of it in 24 hours", you'd have barely scratched the surface. This is definitely not a throwaway rental title, and maybe you need to do some more research on it cause it sounds like you're under all sorts of misconceptions.

I'll be buying this to encourage more adult, innovative and unique games. In order for our favorite hobby to mature and grow, there has to be games that try something different. I have hopes that more developers will create games that are not based on killing waves of enemies. Not that shooting is bad of course :D Just mix it up, ya know?

This game will get great reviews and will sell poorly because there are no bald space marines.

In this day and age it's really inexcusable that they couldn't find a place for even a single bald space marine.

Maybe they're saving him for the DLC?

If only they followed the Bioware model and have in game characters trying to sell DLC, or talking about the great DLC story, items, and equipment that you can purchase. Or maybe they can sell extra inventory space, that would be great! And have it for sale on day one! Just like Bioware!

heh I really hope that "i hope they burn in hell" tag gets more use. Seems like a waste for a one-time thing.

I agree they should burn in hell, but not for the DLC. For that damned PS3 exclusivity. I went from being very excited about this game to very pissed off. I don't even have any friends who own a PS3 let alone have one myself. I just don't see myself buying a PS3 for one game, everything else I would want to play I can already get on my PC or 360.

It isn't the DLC I hate (though I think Day 1 DLC is starting to get pretty annoying) it is the idea that if you do not Pre-Order this game that it will cost you $65 to play what everyone else is going to get to play for $60.

I know they want people to buy the game, but shouldn't we be buying the game based on the strength of the game itself and not on some kind of threat of "Pre-Order our game before the reviews come out and people say it sucks or you will be out $5.00 worth of DLC."

It seems like a desperate attempt to get people to pitch in for the game before the reviews come out -- or as other people have suggested -- before people play it once and trade it in right away because it is an adventure game with zero replay value.

I want to encourage developers who make great games and who reward their fans with DLC that adds value to a product -- I bought everything that was released for Oblivion and Fallout 3 -- I don't want to be guilted or threatened into thinking that I'm missing out if I don't Pre-Order.

Well after watching that video from the first page, I think I will pick this up preorder style. That looks just too good as far as adult themes and the visuals remind me of how I felt when I first saw Shenmue. Just a cut above everything else at the time. Cool stuff.

Of course! What most people forget about the Horse Armor is that it was one of the first pieces of DLC ever available for any game. It was a rip-off, but it was a new thing back then.

If you don't like the pre-order shit then just wait till the game hits $30 and buy it then. So if you have to decide to pay $5 to get that "free" episode you are still saving $25.

It isn't the DLC I hate (though I think Day 1 DLC is starting to get pretty annoying) it is the idea that if you do not Pre-Order this game that it will cost you $65 to play what everyone else is going to get to play for $60.I didn't get the gigawatt blades when I played inFAMOUS and my experience wasn't ruined or hampered.

The way I feel about this is that the company is well within its right to do as it pleases and you can cry foul as much as you like, but the only way to be heard is to talk with your wallet. If enough people were upset enough about DLC to actually boycott with their wallets then DLC wouldn't be such a viable business model, which obviously isn't the case as more and more games are getting DLC or outright becoming DLC. *cough* Alan Wake *cough*

I know they want people to buy the game, but shouldn't we be buying the game based on the strength of the game itself and not on some kind of threat of "Pre-Order our game before the reviews come out and people say it sucks or you will be out $5.00 worth of DLC." I haven't looked at it this way, but I do agree that it is a very likely thought progression for game makers. It still doesn't bother me, though, because I'm not one to buy into it. I buy what I want to buy and if it sucks stain on me. I'll wait for reviews if I'm uncertain or I'll rent it. Realistically, most (if not all, though I haven't seen an example yet) DLC is not something that is necessary to the core of the game or that has any effect on the playability.

It seems like a desperate attempt to get people to pitch in for the game before the reviews come out -- or as other people have suggested -- before people play it once and trade it in right away because it is an adventure game with zero replay value. All of your arguments consistently come back on the fault of the consumers who are easily goaded into buying a product before they see what it is. I've said it already, but it is a business model that works, so good for them.

I want to encourage developers who make great games and who reward their fans with DLC that adds value to a product -- I bought everything that was released for Oblivion and Fallout 3 -- I don't want to be guilted or threatened into thinking that I'm missing out if I don't Pre-Order.I agree completely, I wish I had the money to buy the Borderlands DLC because I think Gearbox certainly deserves it. I did buy all of the Fallout stuff and the majority of the Oblivion stuff.

If I'm wrong I'll take it and run, but has there been a single piece of pre-order DLC that has made or broken a game?

I think the idea of pre-orders in general is pretty bad, but that is a whole different argument.

Yes! The entire seventh grade will be up in arms.

Even now, I can't look at the title of this game without thinking about "Chubby Rain" from Bowfinger.

It is 100% a cash/incentive grab geared towards creating more day one sales of a game that can be traded in as completed on day 2. In other words the game is super dang short and to curb the used sales market they are trying to encourage more day 1 sales.

I would say that while I understand the sentiment, I think DLC is getting to be better and have a much higher value. See Burnout, Fallout, and Borderlands for good examples of good DLC.

I just watched the trailer for this game and it looks awful. I mean... WOW.

Jeff from The Totally Rad show says it's a good game, so I'll believe him but the trailer starts with a "this is all gameplay" screen like your about to see mind blowing graphics, and then proceeds to show some truly awful visuals. Some of it looks good, but some of the faces look worse than some games were capable of achieving in the previous generation. Certainly not up to the level of other PS3 or Xbox games.

And the voice acting... oh my goodness....

Pretty much the opposite situation on this end. I mean, most of my friends' younger brothers own 360s, but that's about it.

I have no intention of pre-ordering Heavy Rain. Then again, I've never pre-ordered a game. Ever.
