lockwoodx - You should have bought stock in Nintendo right after the Wii was announced actually. Investors expected it to be the 3rd place "family console" with the worst graphics and poor game support like the Gamecube when it was announced. Who knew that new controls would prove so easily marketable to the general public?

Personally, I wish I had invested heavily in Blizzard before WoW came out (if that was even possible. . . I think they were privately held at that point).

There are not enough atoms in the universe to print all the money that Nintendo is making.

Just remember this when you look at Apple's new iPad. Cause the comments on the thread below sound almost exactly like the ones we all made after Nintendo first announced the Wii.

(btw, that image on the OP is awesome)

I remember saying "$500? nobody is going to pay that for an mp3 player" when the iPod was announced.

Two ipods later, I'm convinced I don't know what the public will latch onto.

Nintendo will always have a main line to my wallet when it comes to the DS.

Yup. Just bought Professor Layton: The Diabolical Box and Zelda: Spirit Tracks recently (this month). They're cheap games at roughly $29 and tons of fun.

Why pay $60 for a game when you can have just as much fun (or more) for half that?

Why does the DS print money? Fun games, for less.

Yeesh. Anyone know how this compares to things like WoW/MW2 revenue-wise?

WoW has around 10 million customers now but has averaged around 8 million throughout it's 5 years.

That's 8 million x 60 months (5 years) x $15 monthly subscription fee = 7.2 billion.

So that's a fair bit more than Modern Warfare 2's billion. . . just in subscription fees. You also have to add up 10 million box sales of the original game and 2 expansions. So 30 million x $50 = 1.5 billion

Those estimates really aren't true. Not everyone buys all the expansions or they don't buy them at full release price. Also, in Eastern countries, they pay by the hour or they pay far less for their subscription. Plus, they have server, support, development, and marketing costs, but the same can be said of MW2. The point is that at the end of the day they've made billions.

Love the picture. Lockwood why DIDN'T you buy into it? I wish I was old enough to have bought some stuff. I was given stock in @Home(Split into and now disolved into Comcast), Lycos(Now excite or Yahoo or something), and Dell. Still have them but don't know what the hell to do with them.

67 million wii owners just makes the sales numbers for gems like okami or little big king all the more saddening.

While I hesitate to call it a 'problem' isn't that the problem with Nintendo in general? It is Nintendo that makes most of the money from Nintendo products (I have read that even most DS games don't sell all that well).

I look at our news page and I hardly even see us doing a news item about a Wii game.

For all its sales, the Wii is still mostly about Mario Kart, Smash Bros and Super Mario.

I would love to see that company do something original for a change.

If you want to buy Apple, now is your chance. Following the announcement of the iPad it took a dump and stocks were down across the board today. It will not get much lower than what it opens at on Monday.

Of course, at $192+ per share you would need a bundle to make any money off Apple stock.

I had it with gamestop when an employee actually started berating me for asking him to un-ring up the twenty dollar Nintnedo DS protection pack he just put in there with the rest of my purchases when I was buying a DS. ANd then when I told him to take it out, he started berating me and trying to make me feel stupid as though my DS was going to break in a week without it.

A almost punched him.
