IGN (http://www.ign.com) has some new screenshots (http://media.ds.ign.com/media/726/726069/imgs_1.html) up of Tetris DS.

Looking good! That one screen showing the original SMB looks interesting.

So is the tetris part interacting with the background classic NES stuff?

I'm the champ on the original Tetris on the old school gray Game Boy. Bring your link cable and we'll get it on

Just check out nintendo.com They have a few movies there showing the old school gaming in action above while you play Tetris below. Just eye candy, but damn cool eye candy.

Wow, at first I was going to blow it off as just another Tetris game, but that looks really interesting.

Then again, I'm sure it'll have download multiplayer play, which will be awesome.

I want it, but still have to wait on reviews... it's using the Tetris Worlds rules w/ "Easy Spin" where as long as you keep spinning the block, you can move it around w/o it locking in.

10 player single cart gameplay does sound tempting. :)

If it doesn't have the classic Tetris music, I'm not buying it. End of story.

They had a demo of this in my local gamestop but I played the metroid hunters single player demo they had instead. :p

Guess you're not buying it then. None of the original music is in it.
It has remixed NES music instead.

I'd personally take the remixed NES music : )

I'll be buying this along with Oblivion and Hunters on the 20th.
It will be a bitter sweet day of getting some awesome games and losing a bunch of money.

Hehehe, I know what you mean...but I just got to have any Nintendo-developed Tetris game. Plus, this one's online. All hail the DS!

z0mg! How about some ORIGINAL IP Ninty! I mean, feh, how many times has Tetris been rehashed! And, God, talk about milking.... using mario, metroid, and zelda to sell the game... as if Metroid Pinball wasn't bad enough... Grow up Nintendo.

It will be a bittersweet day of getting some awesome games and losing a bunch of money.
Sounds like much of my past week.

I think that this game, moreso than Oblivion or Kingdom Hearts 2, is the game that I am looking forward to the most this month. I already bought 3 JRPG's and I have lots of meaty games to play on almost every system. Having Tetris on the DS will mean I'll finally be able to play Tetris at work.

If the DS had been able to play original GB carts, I wouldn't bother with this, but since it doesn't, I'm there with bells on.

They only care to make it so you have to buy the same game over and over! Rah! I'm the kinda guy that has to piss over Nintendo even in the face of awesomely good game news! (insert typical Nintendo is doomed + more rehash banter)

Every Nintendo thread has to have some decenting opinion.... even if it is total sarcasim. and I didn't see Zeal stepping up to the bat so....

You have a valid point...but I'll always be a sucker for Tetris. And now that it's going to be online through DS....well that just makes it that much better.

Getting back to your topic........when was the last time Nintendo published an original IP game? Not trying to be funny, but I really don't remember.

edit:Did a little seachcing... What about Chibi-robo or Custom-robo for that matter... Geist? Odama? 1080? Trace Memory? Certainly the "Brain Trainer" software is new, even if it doesn't have "characters". Electroplankton?

To answer you're question... I'd say Nintendo has produced plenty of new IP. Certainly, though, none of it compairs though to the stalwarts of Mario, Zelda, and Metroid...

Plus, this one's online.

Not the first one though. You can play tetris online for free, just download tetrinet @ http://www.tetrinet.org/

I'm looking forward to this game. I'm not looking forward to the bizarre Tetris-influenced dreams returning.

I actually find Nintendo to be one of the more creative companies in this regard. Sure, a lot of the IP's that they try out only have one, maybe two games attached to them, but they do try a lot of different things. It's just that they have such a huge stable of awesome IPs that happen to be 20 years old that we just expect to see Mario's face in everything they make.

Nintendo is the cook throwing a bunch of spaghetti at the wall and seeing what sticks. The stuff that doesn't, well, they just put that in the casserole (see Super Smash Bros.). The stuff that does, that lives on forever in some kind of giant vat of leftovers.

Stopping the food analogy now.

I thought I was the only person who had these.

Actually, I just finished reading Everything Bad Is Good For You and the fact that Tetris will induce dreams about Tetris is mentioned a few times.

Scary. I bet Tetris is really just an insidious cold war brainwashing project that didn't quite work as a weapon so they just marketed it as a game.

Yes, at my Tetrinet peak I went to sleep with Tetris scenarios and block placing strategies floating through my head.

Over the past few months, I have had dreams of Guitar Hero and Mario DDR, so, yeah, I'm ready for something new. It's nice to know I am not alone!

The worst, really, was seeing Wipeout levels overlaying everything in real life. There was a period where my brain would interpret certain common patterns as levels from Wipeout, which was really disturbing and disorienting.
