Does the world needs another Star Trek space simulator ? How much *other* versions of this exist today ? 20-25 ?
Wouldn't it be too complicated to have a KOTOR kind of game set in the Star Trek universe ? Or an Indigo Prophecy / Still Life ?
Star Trek has always been a show with an emphasis on story, character relationship and moral dilemma and most of the games we get from that universe are lifeless space sims or badly imitated RTSs.
Anyway, my 2 cents.

This is a game I want so very much.
I love the strategic pace of Star Fleet Battles and have longed for a good console version.
The DS version of this game allows you to play the whole game with the stylus, allocating power to ship's systems, raising shields, etc.
If you are looking for a good character-driven Star Trek game, check out the 25th Anniversary game (http://www.adventureclassicgaming.com/index.php/site/reviews/91/).

I want a game where I can actually be the captain... Walk around my ship, assign crew, explore the Quadrant. Seems like I'm never going to get that, though...

Star Trek has alot of material that ripe for making good games. I might not be the biggest Star Trek fan, but I've always admired the slow pace and almost platonic approach to sci-fi it takes. I think it would be difficult for a videogame that focuses just on the space / naval style of combat to captuer the feel of a good episode of any of the series. But whatever.

/updates his "Star Trek: Starship Log" design doc for the Nth time...
Right when I signed on at Toys For Bob, we had a solid deal with Activision, who owned the Star Trek license. The boss here is a HUUUUGE Trek fan, like me. He had mentioned that he'd been talking to Activision about possibly doing a Trek title.
Then the Activision/Paramount deal blew up. Lawsuits etc. Yargh. SO disappointing.

<sigh> I really miss the good ol' adventure game days. Both ST:25th Anniversary and Judgement Rites were great games.
Of course, the last ST game I played that I thought was any count was ST:Armada. Never did try the sequel(s), tho. Might have to see if I can eBay those on the cheap.

Bridge Commander probably was the closest I've seen to "being there" as the captain. Sure, it was kinda goofy at points, but it had a fairly decent atmosphere.
Try it out if you see it in the bargain bin sometime... not a stellar game, but worth a shot.

Bridge commander was great, hopefully this game allows "alot" more freedom in the gameplay. one thing i Don't like is that it seems spaceship combat only. Maybe for multiplayer instead of the godly one-warmachine players, they make ranked matches where you work as a crew on one of the players ships.
