From GameRevolution (www.gamerevolution.com) comes word that the whole Gizmondo system maybe just a scam.
This gameindustry.biz article outlines several of the interesting coincidences that lined the pockets of Freer, Eriksson, and other Gizmondo employees. Our personal favorite is the maneuver in which Gizmondo paid Northern Lights (a company owned by Freer and Eriksson) $3.5 million to develop the games Chicane and Colors, even though those games had already been developed by Warthog and Indie studios, both of which were owned by Gizmondo Europe. Also notable are $100,000 luxury car allowances granted to various Gizmondo employees.
Also Stefan Eriksson, former Gizmondo exucutive, and other employees were in the Swedish mafia.
Meet two members of the Swedish Uppsala Mafia: mastermind and money launderer "Fat Stefan" Eriksson and collector/enforcer Johan "The Torpedo"

What's wrong if they give themselves a little play money for doing such fine work.
But seriously, to this day I have no idea who Gizmondo is.. They just appeared out of the blue. Everytime I hear gizmondo i hear of that tech news site of a similar name.

You're kidding? The swedish mob? What's their forte? Laundering cash and selling knock-off pocket knives and watches?
I remember reading the article about his ferrari, I can't belive this conspiracy is that far out there.

I don't think they're part of some swedish mob. Three guys in the gizmondo company went by the nick-name "the Uppsala mafia", but since there was only the three guys I don't think it really constitutes as the "swedish mafia".
But it is kind of interesting that they had all done serious jail-time before the whole gizmondo thing. The guy who crashed the car, Stefan Eriksson, was sentenced to 10,5 years in '93 and '94 for serious financial crimes. Maybe the investors should check up on people...

Many of the gizmondo crews are ex-criminals. SO itīs old news.

This just gets better and better by the day.
Oh wait, Stefan Eriksson wasn't the one in the mafia. It was that German guy, Hans. Stefan just happened to be in the same getaway car at the time >.>;;

I was waiting for a mention of Deitrich. Didn't happen.
For clarification: Sweden is not Switzerland. Not really even close. And a good chunk of the world's wealth is locked up in Switzerland, and not even in the safe at the knife and watch factory.

I seriously hope they make an example of these jack-offs. Of course those of us in the gaming "know" knew of the impending, colossal failure that the Gizmondo was to become. But these cons pried millions and millions of dollars from unsuspecting investors who, even though they were victims of their own lack of research and understanding of the industry into which they were investing, are still the ultimate victims in this debacle.
I hope these crooks are sent to a prison where they get a daily meat shot for the next 20-30 years.

Obviously you both missed the "rolled eyes" smiley after that statement. I don't mean to offend any Swedes out there, everyone knows Sweden is the porn capital of the world :D

They're as close to swedish mafia as Tim Roberts would be to cosa nostra if he called himself 'don'.

Yeah it was news to me too. I lived there for years and never heard anything about the Swedish mafia any organized crime is generally eastern block Russian, Czech or Polish. This doesn't exactly seem very creditable.

When they make the movie, Kelsey Grammer's a natural.
People are just now figuring this out?
Dietrich is to blame! :p

Deputy commissioner, anti-terrorism unit Stefan Eriksson (http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-030206ferrari_lat,0,1020964.story?coll=la-home-headlines). I guess they don't do background checks for that type of job.
