From 4 Color Rebellion (http://www.4colorrebellion.com):
On March 13th three game designers will be Knighted by the French Minister. Shigeru Miyamoto, Michel Ancel and Frédérick Raynal will all be recognized for their outstanding work and contribution to the arts.
Congratulations are in order and I couldn’t agree more with the nominations. It’s great to see game designers recognized as artists and influential members of society. I guess Miyamoto now has a license to carry that sword that he was swinging around at E3.

It really doesn't have to have anything to do with a monarchy...

Yeah but isn't another name for a Monarch a Sovereign or some such similar thing? I am not trying to be argumentative just interested. :)

If he was knighted by the French wouldn't it be "monsier"?

This title is not really correct. He has not been Knighted. He will be Knighted in the future. In 4 days to be exact. But you can't really say "Miyamoto Knighted" if it hasn't happened can you? You don't see CNN say "Bush Wins Election" when he doesn't get the majority of the vote do you? oh... wait...

I know you're being sarcastic but I'm so tired of this argument. I'm no bush lover, I mostly vote democrat but I'm starting to lean towards Libertarianism. It's just not the way our system is setup. If it was setup where majority always wins, then the entire system would be like that. Live in state with a small population? Any of the midwestern states + N.H./Deleware would have absolutely no say in government because majority wins. The New Yorks, the California's, the Virginia's would have all the say because of population.

Sovereign just means the holder of political power in a country. That power can be vested in the people, a monarch, a ruling class, or just about anything else. Monarch is is a subset of Sovereign.

kokyunage, as far as the electoral system is set up, it's not directly tied to the votes of the people, but it's also not balanced the way I'm reading your post. Every state gets as many electoral votes as they have members of congress. Small states have fewer (I think North Dakota has three), and some states have more (California has 55 if I remember correctly). Again, you're right that with the electoral college it's possible for a president to win with a minority of the vote, but generally the candidate that wins the majority wins the electoral college. Some states have mechanisms for tying their electors to the state's popular vote, others have mechanisms whereby the electors are picked through a political process which generally and roughly emulates the popular vote breakdown of the state. Other states, like Florida, do have an all or nothing system where all the electoral votes go to the winner of the state's popular votes. Man, that was boring, wasn't it?

Well, the French kept killing all their nobles, but they seem to still want knights. Can't have it both ways, guys.

To try and get the thread back on track, I'm familiar with Miyamoto and Ancel's work, but what has Raynal worked on?

He founded Adeline, which did the Little Big Adventure games and some less noteworthy titles before Sega bought them up. I don't think they're still around these days.

The Little Big Adventure games were/are freaking awesome. I think Relentless Twinsen's LBA was one of the first, if not the very first, non-pirated games I ever owned.
