TeamXbox (http://www.teamxbox.com/) has posted word that LG.Philips has developed a 100 inch TFT-LCD panel (http://news.teamxbox.com/xbox/10418/LGPhilips-Develops-Worlds-Largest-LCD-Panel/). The article also has a photo of the monster for your viewing pleasure.
LG.Philips LCD, one of the world’s leading TFT-LCD manufacturers, announced today that it has developed a 100-inch TFT-LCD panel. Developed at LG.Philips LCD’s P7 fabrication line in Paju, South Korea, the 100-inch panel is a widescreen LCD TV panel with a screen width and height exceeding 2.2m and 1.2m, respectively.Whoa!

Didn't realize LG and Phillips were associated. I know LG owns Zenith, but I thought Phillips was owned by Magnavox, or vice-versa.

I wonder how many dead pixels one of those would have on average.
I'd also like to meet the person who would sit and count them all.
I'm still a fan of CRT myself (mostly because of price and the picture) but DAMN I would love to have one of those.
I'd sure hate paying for it though.

Then you definitely need to check out LCDs again, given that they're much cheaper and much better than they were just a few years ago. I can't stand CRTs ever since I've been using my new LCD.
And wow, 100", that's massive. Just means I can build one into the wall of my house in a few years.

Umm.. I have chesked them out. Their picture is not as good as a CRT. Period. And they may have gone down in price, but they are still more expensive than a CRT. The only plus they really have is their size.
I'm not saying LCD's look bad. I'm just saying CRT's look better. The only downside is that CRT's are huge.

My new CRT 24 inch monitor can run at +1600x1200 resolution at +85hz. This same monster monitor was +$3 000 a few years back, I got it for less than $700.
This LCD myth is so awesome. All I need is a bigger desk ;)

I pretty much agree, except that CRT's also have a problem with glare if you have a light source behind you (like a window). That's one thing I'll never have to worry about with my LCD.

My LCD picture is pretty damn nice, I would say about 95% as good as my CRT when it was new (towards the end my NEC 21" monitor developed a waviness across the whole screen which drove me nuts). Not to mention my LCD only requires a tiny fraction of the space of my CRT, half of my desk was occupied by this huge box that weighed a ton. Glad it's gone and never going back.

I will never go back to CRT...the whole scan line thing gives me a headache. The thing is, dollar for dollar, the color fidelity on a CRT will beat the pants off of a comparable LCD. In order to get the same quality, you'd have to spend a lot more money. And if you got a high quality CRT, you simply can't match it with LCD at all.
(I too, wait for wallpaperTV.)

I'm talking about a flatscreen HD CRT, not a normal crap tv (like the one I own).
Like a Sony WEGA Trinitron, for instance.
My friend has a VERY nice WEGA and it's picture is absolutely gorgeous.
And it has no scan lines :p
I'm not talking about a normal, low def, tube television.
An HD CRT is basically a giant computer monitor. Now picture a nice flat screen CRT monitor... only 32+ inches. There ya go. You're not beating that picture quality with an LCD screen.
i wonder if you'd be able to return it if it had a dead pixle right after you bought it :P

Under hero's got a point about the picture quality, for now. Though the gap is closing. Ofcourse your not going to hit a 100" inches with a CRT either. It would weigh a ton. Though I've had a LCD projector for some time and absolutlely love my 360's picture on it. 720p is good enough for me. And for good ball-games and I can move it out to my garage and project up to a 200" hi-def picture for parties ... woo-hoo. Though not having a screen out there tears the picture apart. Personally I would not want any sensitive electonic devices to be of that size. Moving it would be a bitch. With the projector I just unhook it from my ceiling, and put it in a flightbox for safe keeping.

Just the other day we hooked up my 360 to a Sony HD CRT and it wasn't that impressive.
You must be looking at budget LCDs...try looking at some high end ones.

Well, seems others agree with me. I'm not saying you're wrong, but I think you may be defending your purchase more than anything else.
I'm also not saying buyng an LCD is a bad idea. I'm just saying I like the picture quality of a CRT more. LCD's are catching up though, but still aren't there.
For now I guess we'll agree to disagree. Now kiss me you bastard!

Tell the guy to stop playing the twilight zone music...back to reality.
If youre talking about the POS LCD's they sell at Costco then yes CRTs are better...heck we could stencil an image on my ass and it would look better than the crap they pass for LCD home theater displays.
I'm talking about high end PC LCDs. 1920x1200 and beyond...an image that is painted on with colors so vibrant you expect them to drip off. Plus no vomit inducing refresh rate from scan lines.
My Apple 23" Cinema Display is as good if not better than any old CRT for more reasons that I can count. I recently had to hook up my high end Mitsu CRT and cringed. The flicker...the drab colors...the pixel structure....the eye fatigue....MY GOD THE WEIGHT!!!!!

Okay, I didn't want to argue but you won't stop :p
Here... a few links for you.

http://www.webopedia.com/DidYouKnow/Hardware_Software/2005/all_about_monitors.asp
http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview?id=548758
I know they aren't the "end all, be all" scientific studies you might be hoping for... but I'm just showing you that it's popular "opinion" (fact?) that CRT's are able to product a better picture than an LCD screen at this point in time.
Keep denying it if you want... but hey, maybe it's you who is using a low end CRT.
And for the last time, there are NO SCANLINES IN A MONITOR or HD CRT television!!
"Finally, the color clarity of CRT monitors cannot be matched by an LCD screen. With the myriad of adjustments that can be made to the contrast, brightness and hues, CRT monitors are better able to represent actual document colors. This is extremely important for individuals who work in either print or graphics industries. Having an accurate reproduction of the color of a document on the screen when it is printed can save a huge amount of hassle when it comes time to have documents published."
"Both types of monitors (newer models) provide bright and vibrant color display. However, LCDs cannot display the maximum color range that a CRT can. In terms of image sharpness, when an LCD is running at its native resolution the picture quality is perfectly sharp. On a CRT the sharpness of the picture can be blemished by soft edges or a flawed focus.
A CRT monitor can be viewed from almost any angle, but with an LCD this is often a problem. When you use an LCD, your view changes as you move different angles and distances away from the monitor. At some odd angles, you may notice the picture fade, and possibly look as if it will disappear from view."
"- Color clarity of CRTs cannot be matched by an LCD screen. A myriad
of adjustments can be made to the contrast, brightness and hues, CRTs
are better able to represent actual colors."
From three different sources (the three linked). Just search google for "CRT vs LCD".
At any rate, like I said, I prefer CRT at the moment. Why do you seem to have such a problem with that?
Now, again, give kisses.
Edit: Oh, and my CRT monitors don't make my eyes tired at all. Just use a refresh rate over 60hz and you should be fine. That can vary with the individual though. I've never had a problem with flicker, personally.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!
I guess when I videotape my CRT and the refresh rate is different than the framerate of the camera its just my imagination that the image can be seen in a PARTIALLY drawn states!!
I guess the electron gun is able to draw every pixel at once!! It fires 1920000 electrons at once!!!!
Dream on man!!! My side is aching....thanks for the laugh.

You do understand theres a difference between non interlaced and scan lines????
All CRTS use an electron gun that moves sideways to draw each pixel and then moves to the next line. This is where refresh rates come into play.
Get your facts straight.

Here's a link to an article explaining how Computer Monitors (http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/monitor.htm) work.
Read the section on refresh rates and you'll clearly see that it draws one pixel at a time...one line at a time.
Sorry to burst your bubble that HD CRT's somehow magically draw the entire image at once.

Alright, so I was thinking of the wrong term. I'll admit I was wrong.
But that doesn't change what I said about picture quality (which you seem to have ignored in effort to make me look like an idiot).
Just wanted to let you know you're right about the scan lines.
Now continue to justify your purchase.
I personally still own an old analog tv. I don't even have an HDTV. I'm just saying what I've noticed when comparing the two, and what apparently every one else but you has noticed as well. CRT's have a nicer picture and are cheaper/larger. LCD's have a nice picture (not as nice as CRT's though) but are more expensive/smaller.
Now, argue with yourself for another 4 posts then I'll pop back in and say something. I do have to go to work soon, but I'll be back tonight to keep you busy.
Don't pass out or anything though. I imagine you must have some pretty high blood pressure.
