Giant Bite Games (http://www.giantbite.com/) sends along a Press Release announcing their new game studio in Seattle.

Giant Bite Games Founded by Key Talent from Halo, Halo 2 and Half Life

SEATTLE, WA (MONTH DAY, 2006) - Giant Bite Games (www.giantbite.com (http://www.giantbite.com/)), a next generation game development studio focusing on the creation of excellent games and a fun workplace, formally opens its doors today. Giant Bite is founded by game industry veterans Hamilton Chu, Michael Evans, Andy Glaister, and Steve Theodore. The principals have helped to create some of the best-known games in the world, including Halo, Halo 2, Half-Life and Counterstrike, as well as making key contributions to Microsoft's DirectX technologies.

Giant Bite's executive team has shipped over thirty games with over twenty million units sold. With titles to their credit dating back to 1982, Giant Bite has a tremendous depth of experience from which to draw. Hamilton Chu was Lead Producer at Bungie during the making of Halo and Halo 2. Michael Evans worked on Halo and Halo 2 as Multiplayer Lead and Lead Engineer. Andy Glaister was the Director of Development for the Microsoft Game Studios and led the engineering team of Windows Graphics and Gaming. Steve Theodore worked on Half Life and Counterstrike, and most recently was the Technical Art Manager at Zipper Interactive; he also writes the monthly art column for Game Developer magazine.

"We're proud of our work at Bungie, Microsoft and Zipper" says Michael Evans, "It was amazing to work with such fantastic teams on games that turned out so successfully. And now, we're excited to build something of our own."

"Giant Bite will keep the traditions of world class production values and cohesive game play. We see a great opportunity to build the sort of company that we always wanted to work for" adds Andy Glaister.

Giant Bite is currently in discussions regarding its first project.Best of luck guys!

I've noticed lately that the words "makers of", "creator of" and "worked on" get tagged to the words "Halo" and "Halo 2" in press releases. There was this guy who got coffee at Bungie one summer and now he's totally doing the new Barbie game. Can't wait.

That's a bit more than being the coffee makers.

I didn't realize really important people involved with Halo 1 and 2 left Bungie. Think that'll hurt Halo 3 at all? Think they'll add an ending this time?

I think the guys that left were working on the ending.

Is it me, or does there seem to be a LOT of top-tier talent leaving in-house studios of late, to form new studios?

Not really. The last group that splintered off, did so before Halo 2. Its fairly natural for a company thats growing beyond boutique size to see people that want to go back to another boutique.

Whats scares me more is when Bungie started working on multiple titles at once. That can make or break a company. Im sorta worried about the same thing with Bioware, they seem to be getting to big to quickly. Plus, I thought that before the merger...

That's how Activision got started, back in the day. Pretty common outside the gaming industry as well.

And big thanks + props to eth3rton. That's a damned gold mine.

It's always been that way. mainly because.. well.. why not? If MS was like, "hey, we'll buy your studio for 1 bazillion dollars", you just say okay, take the money, quit, and then form your own studio wiht all your old buddies essentially screwing MS out of their money.

Rare, Square, Blizzard, Sony, Bungie, Lucas Arts... they've all been abandoned by their key talent.

Thing is, this is the second time it's happened to Bungie.

Thing is, this is the second time it's happened to Bungie.I wouldn't label it like that. Alex and like three other guys left and started Wideload after Halo was done, mostly because they wanted to move back go Chicago where they had more family.

Hamilton hasn't been at Bungie for months.

So really Bungie has lost 5 or 6 people of any importance in the last four years. That really isn't bad at all.

Now if Jason Jones left, then you would have a problem at Bungie.

"hey, we'll buy your studio for 1 bazillion dollars", you just say okay, take the money, quit, and then form your own studio wiht all your old buddies essentially screwing MS out of their money.None of these guys got a dime from MS buying Bungie, since they didn't have any ownership in the company. Alex and Jason got majority of the money. Majority of the people who studios get bought have to sign contracts that they stay on for a certain amount of time. The Stampler Brothers haven't left Rare. Majority of the Blizzard fallout are middle managment, not founders or partners.

That sounds about right...Remember EA's comments about "...we have a key designer of Halo series working on Rogue Agent..." What happened ? It still was an equally crappy game from EA.
