Gamespot reports: (http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/shatteredunion/news_6145569.html)

Among the various nuggets of news revealed in the conference call following today's Take-Two Interactive earnings report is an item that relates to one of the publisher's internal studios. Speaking to analysts, executive vice president Cindy Buckwalter said that PopTop Software's operations had been merged with those of Civilization-maker Firaxis as a cost-saving measure...

Buckwalter did not say how exactly PopTop, developer of Railroad Tycoon 3 and last year's Shattered Union, would be merged with Firaxis. However, given the latter's larger size and greater prestige, it appears likely that the former will be folded into the Firaxis organization. Unfortunately, Take-Two reps were unavailable for comment on the matter as of press time.
Personally, I love Firaxis games. I hope this brings them good fortune, and doesn't bog down their studio.

Did Sid Mier not produce the first Railroad Tycoon, I seem to remember so. If so then this move makes alot of sense really.

Which is exactly why there never will be another Alpha Centauri title. :)

I have killed for another AC game. It has yet to work. I will keep trying.

...

Poptop did some really cool simulation games, Tropico and Tropico: Pirates Cove. They had a really good economic simulator and island generator, I found that their games became too bogged down with micro management, but they had a solid structure. Didn't play Shattered Union, but I read about it, PaperRockSisscors RTS. Merging the two might yield some of the interesting style Poptop had with the solid gameplay that Firaxis is worth killing for..

Between you killing people for that and me doing the same for Freelancer II and Mech Warrior V... I think the population is being culled nicely.

Mech Warrior IV: Vengenace was an awesome game. I think that was the first title where "non-mech" units actually played an INTERESTING role, with a great story, unit design, etc.

I loved those desert levels.. I'd customize a fast medium mech, fill it with flamethrowers and make all the other units have a meltdown. The only problem was the explosions ;) And the Elementals.

I will join you on your quest for MW: 5. Another worthy title.
