We learned today from Spill (http://my.spill.com/profiles/blogs/ivan-reitman-will-direct) that Ivan Reitman has signed on as the producer and director of Ghostbusters III (the movie), hopefully signaling that the series is in good hands. Of course, Ghostbusters II wasn't great... but who knows.
In case you hadn't heard, there are also some older rumors that Rick Moranis, despite having given up acting altogether, will be returning to the screen for this one. Sigourney Weaver could be back in as well.
Reitman said that screenwriters Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky had turned in a first draft of the script and are working on a second draft right now. "Good work is being done and all of us have our fingers crossed... There's some very cool things in the new draft," he said.
Thanks Fortyseven.

I hope this does have the entire original cast, and Moranis is excellent. It would be good to see him again.
I just hope its more akin to the first one in story quality and doesnt include something as lame as the statue of liberty from the second one.

I dunno... let's hope this is the good Reitman and not the guy-who-made-"Junior" Reitman.

Ive read that the original ghostbusters should be back... but Murray might be a ghost himself (think ive read that on www.comingsoon.net).

While excited I wonder if they'll incorporate the story from the game at all into the movie. Unlikely. :(

Probably not, since the game did a nice job of encapsulating the story it told very nicely within itself, and wrapped up cleanly at the end. I wouldn't be surprised to maybe see one of two references to some of the game's subject matter though.

I just looked him up on IMDB and the only "good" movies he's done since Ghostbusters 2 are Kindergarden Cop and Old School. And a whole list of mediocre to bad movies.
I'm a bit concerned.

If he didn't come back for the game, and he wouldn't come back for an animated version of Bob & Doug (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bob_and_Doug_McKenzie), I don't see him coming back for this movie. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see him in it but I just don't see it happening.

"Good hands"? Uhh... hmmm. Let me list the 5 most recent movies Reitman directed:
My Super Ex-Girlfriend
Evolution
Six Days Seven Nights
Father's Day
Junior
It would be MUCH better if his son, Jason, directed this thing (being the guy who made the critically acclaimed "Up In the Air" this year).

Six Days and Seven Nights was a decent movie (fair mix of action and humor), and I lol'd a few times during My Super Ex-Girlfriend. But Evolution was pretty terrible, Junior was just... I have no idea? Maybe it wasn't supposed to be funny and expected as to take Ah-nold being pregnant seriously? And I never saw Father's Day, so no clue there.

At this point the original actors could play the ghosts themselves.

As long as grown-up Oscar is not played by Shia LaBeouf I'll be watching this one.

It'd be interesting if in the film they had franchised out and there were LOTS of ghostbusters stations all over the country.

You say Shia LeBeouf, all I hear is "camshaft." Best part of that movie, ever ;P

Interesting to note that in the recent Ghostbusters game, during the ending sequence they talk about just that, leaving open the door for sequels in different cities.

I was always hoping for a TV series that followed it in another town, like a Ghostbusters: Miami or something.

What was wrong with Ghostbusters 2? I thought Evolution was pretty good, and even Junior had its moments and contributions to Arnold soundboards everywhere...
I only want 4 things from Ghostbusters 3:
1) No Seth Rogan
2) No Shia LaBeouf
3) No Jonah Hill
4) No Jason Segal
