Eurogamer (http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=63136) is on the ball today!
We are working on Guitar Hero 2, which will have 40-plus new tracks," Sumner told MCV. He also confirmed that genre spin-offs including Country Rock for the US and a Metal edition are on the cards. He even pointed to further possibilities for the peripheral, adding, "you could absolutely do a plug and play version".
Yes! I knew buying that guitar perph. would come in handy for more than one game.

Sweet Deal... I'm already tired of the songs on Guitar Hero 1. I hope they release a few this year and improve upon some of the functionality, for instance, the multiplayer...

Sweet. I can't wait for a sequal and I'm glad they are working on one so fast.
I SERIOUSLY hope they don't waste their time with a COUNTRY version though.
Yes, Country music is the most popular genre in the US (somehow?) but I'm willing to bet a lrge percentage of gamers (the majority of people who'd be buying the game) aren't that into country.
Maybe I'm way off base here.
I'd much rather have their efforts go toward making a Metal edition or something along those lines.
How about a videogame song edition! Now THAT would rock.

I want Alexisonfire, and Alkaline Trio and all those new 'indie' rock bands. Wait... I just want piles of Guitar hero X-packs for cheap.

FREEBIRD!
Fuck that, actually, hurry up and come out with Drum Hero, that costs 200 dollars, and comes with a full electronic set. I'd buy it, and make everyone I know buy it to.

My friend, you don't understand music.
This is the best news I've heard all day, regarding the article. I've almost five-starred every single song on expert, and I need some new material to destroy. :D

1. anything from Offspring.
Preferably The Kids Aren't Alright.
Country? As long as its Wilco that might be ok.
Wilco knows how to rock out.

I am ALL for more Guitar Heroes. That's the only game that sits by my PS2 so it can be tossed in at anytime, rather then having to go all the way over to my rack of games.

Heh, Guitar Hero never even LEAVES my PS2.
My mother and father liked the game so much that they pretty much took command of my sister's PS2 and put it in the living room, then bought the game and an extra guitar.
I have not met a single person who doesn't like this game after playing it. No matter the age. My girlfriends parents loved it. My aunts and uncles love it. Her aunts and uncles love it. Small cousins love it. My fathers friends love it (and have bought a PS2 and the game just to play it. I don't think they even have children).
It really does have amazing appeal.

I'd buy that in a heartbeat. But you'd have to have some Zeppelin, Rush and Slayer songs in there. But it better have some cowbell dammit!

Amen to that. I'll prefer the early stuff off of Ignition or Smash but any Offspring will do.

Some Ryan Adams would be cool.

Yes! Awesome news, lets just hope they add some more features like practice or edit. Also the option for each player to pick different difficulties on multiplayer. There is only one other person I know of that I can play competively on expert with, playing any other difficulty with other people is just boring.
And country? What the hell?
edit: An option in multiplayer for both players to play the full song, or different parts at the same time instead of alternating the same parts would be great as well. The different parts could include someone playing bass too.

Buckethead! And if we're doing any Rage Against The Machine, I think we can do better than Testify. Freedom? Maybe Bulls on Parade?
(Rage was an odd band. All of their CDs were similar, but never so much so that you couldn't love them.)

What we need is Band Hero... 4 seperate instruments (drum, guitar... some other stuff :P) and just jam out. Now THAT would be fun.
As it is I'm still delighted by the news there is another GH on the way.

This is the best new iv heard all day. The different genres like country and metal are great ideas. I wonder what an acoustic version would be like. Probably not that exiting but could still be fun. They could call it Guitar friends or something and you could play like dueling banjo's.
They also need to have some Spanish guitar in there cause that stuff just sounds awesome. A practice mode would definitely cut down on the trial and error of playing a song over and over just to fail at the tough parts.
ElPresidente
03-06-2006, 03:17 PM
Yes... please please please can we have a practice mode for those really fast solos in Hard and above?

FREEBIRD!
"They don't really want to hear Freebird. They're just heckling you."
Personally, I'd like to have some jangly-guitar songs, like maybe some Byrds, Tom Petty, Big Star, early REM. But any new Guitar Hero is good Guitar Hero.

tool and offspring aren't really guitar centric bands. i think they should stick with bands where most guitar players could name the guitarist.
ac/dc, metallica, ozzy, korn, deftones, ratm, billy idol, cinderella, foo fighters, etc.

Man, I want to hear some Tool, Metallica, Slayer, and Pink Floyd.
This isn't really that surprising I think. After seeing how well the first one did it was pretty easy to guess that they would make sequels. Hopefully they would only sell for $20.

Fuck guitar hero regular if a metal edition is comming out.

03-06-2006, 05:49 PM
Actually, the metal edition and other editions worries me a bit as I think the first game did a brilliant job of covering genres. I hope that they can keep going with that for the second game. Personally, I hope that they can get some of the tracks licensed that they were hoping for in the first game. EGM said something about Weezer and Velvet Revolver, as well as AC/DC.

They should do just another big mix of genres as well as having the spinoffs. Heck, i'd probably even buy all of them... except if one was country, no thanks.

I'd want bands like In Flames (pre reroute to remain, and they could have some come clairty in there aswell), Killswitch Engage, Slipknot, Opeth, As I Lay Dying, Darkest Hour, At The Gates. Bands like that, but then again, I'm in the minority.

If they did some kinda Guitar Solo Medley Mode type thing... where they just threw all the crazy awesome thrashing solos n' sort together in a survival-esque mode... that'd be friggin' great.
Also, I'd love to see these:
Iron Maiden - Run to the Hills
Black Sabbath - Crazy Train
Ozzy Osbourne - Mr. Crowley
Boston - Something About You
Guns N' Roses - Rocket Queen
Metallica - Enter Sandman

Um, yes... I think you likely are off base. I'm not a huge country fan, but I've noticed that whenever we have friends over at our house and inevitably start playing Karaoke Revolution, what few country songs there are (Cry, Friends in Low Places) get a disproportionally high amount of play time.
I guess that's why Konami is supposed to be releasing a country edition of Karaoke Revolution this month? Oh that's right.... there's no market for it, so they obviously wasted their time releasing the title. (I'll be picking it up as soon as it comes out.)
Key point to keep in mind: UnderHero5 != all gamers

why are they wasting their freaking time on Metal and country. Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimi Hendrix (Little Wing, Wind Cries Mary, Wait until tomorrow, castles made of sand, stuff like that) John Mayer trio, Buddy Guy, Eric Clapton and Doyle Bramhal, Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters. Seriously pick good GUITAR music. Anyone can play metal, get a gain booster and hit the low E string for 5 hours and you about have it. Blues guitar actually throws in musicianship, were you have to know what you are doing, not mask the fact that you can't play with a Fuzz-Face.
In my opinion

As a couple of other folks have noted, Harmonix did an excellent job in getting a variety of styles into the original game. I'd like to see more of that same approach in the new release, rather than having genre-specific versions of the game. Throw in some country tracks *and* some metal tracks- plus blues, classic rock, indie, whatever. Selecting a few real winners from each genre will keep things interesting.
FWIW, I think "Cult of Personality" by Living Colour would be a hell of a choice for the next GH...

There are opportunities for musicianship in metal. Metallica is a very talented band; listen to their riffs and melodies, they're very unique for the most part.
But agreed, alot of the metal scene is clogged up with too much distortion and guys puking into the mic.
