Thanks to Eurogamer (http://www.eurogamer.net) for the news (http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=63133).

2K Games has signed a new deal with Twentieth Century Fox to produce a game based on hit animated TV series Family Guy.

2K will work closely with Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane on the action adventure title, which will feature all your favourite characters plus locations seen in the TV show.

"2K Games really understands the distinct humour and unique voice of Family Guy," said Fox bigwig Elie Dekel.

"We're confident that they will develop a hilarious and entertaining game for fans of the show as well as for gamers."
Do we really need a Family Guy game?

I can see this as having some potential if they do it as an adventure game, something along the lines of Sam & Max, I think. Anything else, though, and it'll probably end up as trash.

I'd rather have a Futurama Game..

I guess if they tried to ape some of the old-school The Simpsons games, they might have a viable product. Some of those games were quite fun, especially in an arcade setting.

Yes we fucking do.

Stewie: I want pancakes!! You people understand every language except English! Yo quiero pancakes! Donnez-moi pancakes! Click-click-bloody-click pancakes!!!

Brian: Peter, did you read the fine print on this loan contract?
Peter: Um, if by "read" you mean imagined a naked lady, then, yes.

Damn you vile woman!
(Oh... heh... j/k fit... had to have the required Family Guy Stewie quote!)
I'll wait and see what direction they go with the game before passing judgement.

TRiL, there already IS a Futurama game. I won't vouch that it's a good one, but I have often considered picking it up if I find it for $9.99 or less.

As for the Family Guy game, yeah, I think a pure adventure game would be great, but since the article actually SAYS "action adventure", I'm sure it'll be closer to the Simpsons Arcade, only in 3D (which isn't necessarily a bad thing).

The Futurama game was ok. It was a whole episode written specifically for the game, and was never aired. If you like Futurama, you would probably like it. As far as a Family Guy game goes, if it is its own episode, or an original story, that would kick ass.

Agreed. You never know if they will find some way to transfer the comedy over to a new medium, but there's a good chance it'll be crap. Here's hoping it isn't of course. ;)

Uh. 2K just made a game based off a FOX TV show. Maybe you heard of it... 24? It's awful - the game (the show is going downhill, IMO). I really hope 2K Games actually does some quality control for this rather than just cash in.

I am going to have to say that we need a Family Guy game like we need a Street Fighter movie.

It's not a matter of fucking it up, it's a matter of caprturing the effects of the show and bringing it to the game genre. Everyone knows cross genre projects never live up to the original. You typically end up with cheeky, gimicky, bland gameplay, or something that's sub-par because development costs had to be cut to pay for the licensing fees. They also typically piggy-back older game concepts as very little resources goes into creating new styles of game play and more resources are dedicated to art & sound to recreate the environment. I remember Simpson's Hit and Run. It wasn't that great. It was GTA lite, carb and trans-fat free. the game wasn't nearly as in depth and always stood in the shadows. Same with Simpson's Road Rage, the crazy Taxi spin-off. I actually found a path that you could perpetually play the game without gaining 2 seconds each round trip. It sucked the fun RIGHT out of the game.

One good thing about the Simpson's games was that the humor was actually VERY funny. The way the dialog was designed was superb. The same quote while talking to one person maybe even funnier with another person. It brought out what people enjoy about the simpsons, the funny. If 2K can bring the funny to this game with even some borderline gameplay, it would be a success.

Considering the "intelligence" of the show, it will never be realized as an adventure game.

I'm thinking a dumbed-down action game with voice samples, licensed music and very dodgy game mechanics.

Just one more thing the Simpsons had over Family Guy. It was likely much easier for the creators of those Simpsos games to weave a plot for the game based on something that happened on the show because of the show's focus on plot. Family Guy runs on pop culture one-liners and unrealated skits for more than half of its running time. A video game based on Family Guy would be most appropriately random in direction.

You nailed it I think. I see a Family Guy fighter coming :D. It can have all those qualities and go in a completely random direction. You could relive the neighbor game night with the live ammo, and the infamous chicken and
family fights.

I would buy a chicken fight based game.

I just thought the Simpsons were better at selling out. And not in the good way.

Hit and run and the arcade game were the only two good Simpsons games. All of those other games (skateboarding, roadrage, bowling, wrestling, Bart vs. the world, bart and the beanstalk, krusty's world, bart meets radioactive man, house of wierdness, nightmare, vs. the juggernauts, vs the space mutants, treehouse of horror, escape from camp deadly) SUCKED.

I guess that means you were lucky enough NOT to own Superman 64 by Titus:( I've written better collision detection and I'm not a developer. Not to mention you're flying around this large version of Metropolis not being able to see more than 200 feet in front of you due to the fog. What more peculiar is there isn't any people...... It is the worst out of my collection :o

I love Family Guy, but the chances of it being good are slim. I know I shouldn't judge the title before it comes out, but licensed games (especially cartoon ones) tend to suck. Period.

Giggity-giggity-don't. Alllllll-right?
