From 4 Color Rebellion (http://www.4colorrebellion.com) :
Square-Enix president Youichi Wada recently spoke about the upcoming Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles for the Revolution. He stated that the game would have “online capabilities, magnificent graphics, and an intense use of the revolutionary control of the platform.”

With the Rev supposed to be shipping around November, maybe this will make it as a launch title?
Yay. A FF spin-off that no one cares about.

CC was utter shit, sorry. I finished *all* FF titles (excluding FF11) and, as it is pretty obvious for a *real* FF fan, loathed CC.
Shortest, easiest, most un-FF-like Final Fantasy game ever.
The last boss fight was quite cool, though, on clouds with invincibility spheres floating around :)

FF:CC was a very flawed game. What it did right it did very right, but it was mostly on the A/V side.
That said, remove the "miasma chalice" and bump up gameplay/spell complexity at least 300% and you've got a fantastic game.

Okay. . . so I'm getting a Rev now.
I dig FF art and I like action RPGs. I want to play Twilight Princess on this thing anyway. . . plus, you know they'll have a Mario game eventually.

Speak for yourself... oh, wait, I forgot I was in Evil ''Most of us slam Nintendo'' Avatar.
Anyway, I was particularly curious if they were going to include some type of connectivity between the Rev and the DS (obviously less awkward than messing with GBA-GC cables)...

As much as I tried, I just plain didn't like CC.
There was a shitload of potential there, and it was a very pretty game, but I just don't think I got it. Maybe this followup will realise what was untapped in the original.

Cool. Chronicles was pretty fun, but had alot of areas where it could be improved. Hopefully this one will live up to its potential.

I seriously loathe Final Fantasy games, but I loved Crystal Chronicles. Probably because it has absolutely nothing to do with the "proper" FF games (Tactics and Tactics Advanced not included). I admit that there was a lot of wasted potential and some questionable mechanics, but I had a ton of fun playing regardless.

I enjoyed Crystal Chronicles, but I never did finish it... I loved the music and it was quite pretty.
I concider it in the same category as FF: Mystic Quest for the N64. It has elements of a Final Fantasy game, but it is NOT a true part of the series. If you go into it expecting a typical FF experience, no wonder you were disappointed.

CC was pretty incredible fun if you had 4 players (meaning you needed 4 GBAs and 4 link cables), and I'm a big Nintendo fan with a fair few big Nintendo fan friends, and I still only got to play this with 3 others ONE TIME EVER.
The game as a single player game was undoubtebly terrible though.
Crystal Chronicles was a dumbed down version of Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance. Minimal character development, scant itemization, no real plot to speak of... but hey, it's Japanese, so let's all pretend it was brilliant and we as ignorant westerners just didn't 'get it'.

This is why I'm looking forward to the revolution version. Although I had trouble getting the people and eq together in the same place, if we could all play together online it would become a lot simpler. CC is truely a multiplayer game, and this can only help.

It's good to see some title information finally on the Rev.
Of course...I can't see how in anyway it'll take advantage of the controller.

I am just curious. Do you guys hate nintendo, the gamecube, Square enix, or just hate yourselves so much that you can't tell a good game from the crap that everyone else plays. CC was alot of fun, I am playing through it again as we speak. And if the game gets better playing it multiplayer then it must be awesome because i had nothing but fun playing it on the single player. And with the inclusion of online gameplay i dont see how this game could be any better, unless they use rev-ds functionalitiy and it is a launch title.
Give games a chance, sorry i mean give games without guns, blood, crime, or breasts a chance.

Maybe we just like traditional Final Fantasy games?
Maybe we don't like easy games?
Maybe we like *gasp* - GOOD games?
Not everybody who dislikes this piece of shit is a Nintendo/ Square/ Gaming hater you know.
It's the fanbois that are blind and deaf when it comes to their favourite game criticism.
FF:CC really disappointed. I tried to like it, but even the gameplay was broken - having to replay the same areas over & over again just to complete the area's treasures was just over the top stupid.
Have fun trying to beat the last boss three forms with a weak character (low attack, defense and hearts).

Whatever people. With online play, and assuming they fix the first game's plentiful (and obvious) flaws, this has the potential to be pure awesomeness.

I dug Crystal Chronicles when I could get enough serious gaming friends together to play it properly. THe biggest problem is it took more teamwork and effort than most multiplayer games, and when friends are used to games like Baldur's Gate, Norath, or X-men Legends where they can all just go around smashing things all the time, that style of play doesn't translate as well. The one thing that sorta killed the game was the way the enemies go incredibly hard when you went back to play the previous levels, this was especially a problem when you had less than a full four player. Nevertheless, I absolutely loved the art style and atmosphere of the game and at least I didn't have to spend tons of time listening to innane dialogue and lame melodramatic plot points like most other FF games.
One, of the coolest ideas, I think would be to make spells be different motions much like the spells in Black & White. Draw a circle to heal, flick the controller forward and hit "B" for Fire, etc.
Dan
I loved FFCC myself, it was a blast.
Of course, i've never played it with fewer than 4 people, so my view of the ordeal is a bit skewed. As far as Co-op gameplay goes, however, it was excellent.

I loved the art style of FF:CC, but never really enjoyed the gameplay. I also hated that you needed several Gameboys to enjoy the muliplayer aspect, as that's what was most exciting about it to me...
Nintendo's great. Gamecube's a source of great times. Sqeenix makes some good games.
FFCC was a monotonous piece of crap.

I thought this site hated Microsoft, with it's Xbox 1.5, and lame old gen tech, and terrible Backwards compatibility.
No wait! I thought this was a Anti Sony site, with all these comments abuot how Sony online is a joke, and the playstaion is going to cost 1000 quatloos!
Actually, this board is full of PC players who think that Mouse/Keyboard is the ultimate interface and anything on the console is a huge disgrace to accuracy! "My Rig is faster than _____."
Have you been to the internet? This site and it's posters, while passionate about their opinions, is pretty well balanced on all sides considering..well.. that we're on the internet.

If you are one of the people saying that you disliked the game, I am willing to bet you didnt play it as intended. I can say, I played with 3 friends all linked up with our GBA-SP's and the experience was awesome. The flaw in the design was that TOO MANY people played the game alone. That in my opinion kills the intended experience. Same goes for Zelda: Four Swords. Shame because they were both very fun original games. However with this one coming to the Rev it seems there will not be the same type of hardware requirements. Plus online play allows me to play with my buddies more often without having to go to eachothers houses.

Crystal Chronicles remains, to this day, one of my favorite gaming experiences of this console Gen. Get 4 people together for it who are into action/rpgs and it is a total blast. The upper levels (3rd level) of all of the areas is super hard and requires levels of cooperation among 4 people I've never seen in any game before.
Yay for it continuing.

Well. I have also noticed a slight bias against nintendo here on EA. If we go back a year or two it was definetly tangible. However it seems that it is shifting to a more neutral position.
One of the reasons this site is seen as anti-nintendo is probably due to Evil Avatar himself. His comments are the ones that are noticed the most, and don't come here and tell me that some of his statements can't be seen as anti-nintendo :)

Interesting, interesting.
If you like Crystal Chronicles, you're a Nintendo fanboy. Or, as someone else claimed, hated Western games and thought everything Japanese was great.
If you didn't like Crystal Chronicles, you're either a Microsoft fanboy, a Sony Fanboy, or just plain hate Nintendo.
I personally thought FF:CC was a very interesting concept for a game and quite fun under the right conditions, and am looking forward to the Revolution game. But just because I liked it doesn't mean everyone has to. And just because one of you didn't like it doesn't mean everyone agrees. It is possible to discuss the merits of a game without resorting to insulting the other party- you will get much further actually talking about points other people made rather than coming up with creative insults. Just my thoughts.

I'll definitely keep my eye on this one. The first had a lot of potential, but the GBA requirement was just ridiculous and totally ruined the game for me. Great graphics, awesome music, lots of charm, and really, really difficult to get 4 people together, which the game really needed to be fun. The single player was just too hard and very boring.
I'm confident that the main issue (getting people to play with) will be addressed, so here's hoping this one turns out great.
Setzer_83 - Your use of homophobic rhetoric is really not appreciated. Why don't you go to the IGN boards.

Single-player, I likely wouldn't bother. But co-op was damn fun.

The only reason FF:CC was so hated because FF fanboys have no friends to play it with. I mean shit, they can't even stay friends with each other. They bicker over the most retarded bullshit, like Sephiroth's motivation, and then they become sworn enemies.
That, and CC couldn't be beaten by simply hitting the attack button endlessly. That REALLY turned them off. A game that requires some skill, under the FF name? FUCK that, am I right?

And pleasant community members, please shut up about any bias on EvAv. You're free to post your opinions here, and so is everyone else. If those who disagree with you are more eloquent or numerous, that just means you'll be having an extra long cry in your pillow tonight, not that all of the individually-held opinions of the community somehow add up to a biased whole.
Get over it.

I look forward to the console wars being over so that people can like and dislike games based on their merits and not be called fanboys and haters.
CC wasn't a great game. It was even disappointing if you were expecting a true FF, because it certainly wasn't anything like a true FF. Still, it offered some good gameplay in multiplayer and thus the online component of this game has me interested.
Like the game or hate the game, but stop labeling each other for disagreeing about the game.

They become much less of an issue further into the console's life cycles.
When you can point to every system and attribute merits to them, most gamers on EvAv (a fairly hardcore site) will own them all and will get back to saying that they all have their merits.

Then again, many other video game players like something other than slogging through hours of inane dialog, breeding gaint chickens, or the same twisted, silent hero and feminine villain.
Crystal chronicles rocked if you got some buddies together to play it multi.

It really would be sweet if they just used DS wirelessly. After playing Champions of Norrath, and having to pause every time someone wanted to check inventory or skills or whatnot, I could see the advantage of the GBA controller. The thing that kept me from ever really playing FF:CC was the cable you had to buy; All of my gaming friends have GBAs, but none have cables, and none of us wanted to buy them just for one game.

The way Square is talking about the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection I'm thinking there's a slight chance the DS and Rev versions of Cyrstal Chronicles (both have been announced seperately) are the same game.
Someone connecting online via the DS "client" would be able to play with people using the Rev version.
At least, that would be my hope, and not entirely out of the realm of possibility I think. The same rumors were circulating prior to the release of the original.

This game would have produced much less whining if it had just not allowed single-player play. I understand that they had to have it, but it was pointless and not fun. The multiplayer, on the other hand, was brilliant. Working with another player to carefully time spells like Holy and Firaga was really fun.

I think this was my problem as I played (and disliked it) mostly in single player. If it hadn't been such a showcase for the GBA/CG link feature I think it would have been a far better online experience.
If Sega can do it with only minor total fuck-ups, surely Square could do it too.

I'm not sure how well it would have worked online. It would have required voice chat at least. Communication between players is really key. When I played, we usually had a player focusing on offensive magic, a player focused on healing, and two player focused on melee combat with one or two magic spells just in case. Everything has to be carefully coordinated, including two or more players casting spells simultaneously to do the more powerful stuff, like Gravity or Holy. It's a completely different experience, really. It would be interesting online, with voice chat, but finding other dependable players would be tough. I know a friend found the game unenjoyable just because one of his fellow players wouldn't work as a team.
Edit: Oh yeah, apparently this is false. S-E denied it earlier.

mister_slim - Funny. When my friends and I played, we either all fought each other to do the most damage (when his girlfriend was around and we had to play to win or get yelled at) or we continuously killed each other by running away with the chalice (when she was not around).

Well that set-up is pretty much the same as most PSO groups that worked reasonable successfully on GC. There would always be problems with grouping, like all online games of this sort that put stock in co-op play.
However, with a keyboard controller and a few shortcuts, all they would really need to do is lengthen the window for combining 1 or more spells to make it work rather than having to implement voice chat. The setup for magic etc. as is probably stemmed from the requirement of all the players to be in the same room at the same machine, not really necessitating split second timing, rather than just an arbitrary decision they felt they needed to stick to.
Anyway, it's all pretty academic, but I thought the setting would have been quite suitable for online, with many players traversing the country in their little caravans, meeting up with others and strengthening their party.
