Want to know what kind of game is Dark Messiah? Get your answer from RPGDot's recent interview with Arkane Studios ( http://www.rpgdot.com/index.php?hsaction=10053&ID=1212).

RPGDot: What else is there in DM? First question: can you briefly describe the story, is it based on other M&M games?

Raphael: In Dark Messiah, you are Sareth, apprentice to a powerful wizard. He has raised you for a single purpose, training you in the arts of magic and war. At the beginning of the game you are given an ancient artifact and ordered to carry it to a friend of your master. It seems like a simple task … But of course, yours will be a sinuous journey, filled with unexpected encounters and revelations, and upon your quest, looms the shadow of the Dark Messiah...
Arkane is the French developer behind Arx Fatalis, the spiritual remake of Ultima Underworld. In the past they've expressed their high regard for Looking Glass's work on Thief and System Shock, and have since picked up a few ex-LG throwaways. Expect elements of stealth as well as heavy doses of action in Dark Messiah.

I spoke with Raphael last year, he is a friendly bloke (Europeans are just downright nice). Dark Messiah is gonna be big this summer. Cheers, to a job well done!

The fact that they made Arx Fatalis now has me interested in this game. Arx Fatalis was fucking cool. And I guess Dark Messiah is going to be a deus ex style level based RPG, and as near as I can tell it's PC exclusive, or at least PC first, which is good.

OK, color me intrigued now.

Never would have thought you played Arx, Draft.

The last "dungeon" (Ylside base) and the last boss fight in the Ylside chapel were uber-lame though - you had to use fireballs to even enter the damn thing. Warriors and rogues = SCREWED.

Everything else (*everything*) including:

- first Sheloba-style encounter in the caves
- Earth & Water Goblins
- Troll Camp
- the very first area (prison)
- Snake Women Enchantress Base and their Trials
- The Beast in the Dwarvien Forge
- etc.

was pure Ultima Underworld type of gold.

they got rid of the free roaming type of world, instead there is now a mission based level structure like Thief games. I wonder how this will end.
