Thanks to GameDaily BIZ (http://biz.gamedaily.com/) for the head's-up (http://biz.gamedaily.com/industry/news/?id=12004).
Electronic Arts today announced a special collaboration with Depeche Mode. The synthpop band has recorded their song Suffer Well in the native language of the Sims: Simlish. The track will be available through The Sims 2 Open for Business, the third expansion for The Sims 2.
"Like the Sims, Depeche Mode is a worldwide phenomenon, with a distinct style. This unprecedented collaboration brings together two celebrated entertainment icons, and gives millions of Sims fans the opportunity to hear one of their favorite bands sing in Simlish, a language that appeals directly to them," said Steve Schnur, Worldwide Executive of Music and Music Marketing at EA.
Depeche Mode's lead singer, David Gahan, said, "Depeche Mode has always been open to new ways of sharing our music, but re-recording a Simlish-language version of 'Suffer Well' just sounded completely bizarre. Of course, that's why couldn't resist doing it."
I'm speechless...

Cool. Now I can have my Avatar in the Sim's wet himself just like I did back in the 80's when I was listening to Depeche Mode. Crazy times . . .

My boss was a little surprised that I haven't heard of them. I think it was just a little before my time. I'm guessing I would have heard songs by them, I just probably didn't know who it was performing them.

I think the world would stop spinning for at least the length of the song. :)

<still true after all these years>
Depeche Mode fucking rocks.
This however, will not make me want to buy sims. It's a great game, but a bigger waste of time. Why would I want to teach my sims how to manage money when I have those problems in real life? Maybe one day, when I have kids, this game will be a great teaching tool, along side Spore.

Genre-buddy Trent Reznor/Nine Inch Nails made a great soundtrack for Quake. Depeche Mode did this...thing...for the Sims.

One of my favorite bands of the 80's (not many to choose from). The cool thing about that band is that they didn't change their style to please the youth of today; their new songs still sound the same and it's sounds great!

That is one of the coolest things ever.
and bah to all you haters of The Sims. The game is great and furthermore it opens up our elite little world of geekery to the greater public.
So long as the expansion packs keep a high level of quality (unlike the end of the original game's life span) then I'm happy for them to keep being made.
But then again I'm a mod over at Mod The Sims 2 so I'm somewhat bias. :D
