Thanks to GameSpot (http://www.gamespot.com) for the news (http://www.gamespot.com/news/6145278.html).

As Microsoft drags out its teaser campaign, the Associated Press confirms suspicions the device is merely an "ultra-mobile PC" with limited game and entertainment functionality.

Earlier this week, the game industry was rocked by word of the so-called Origami Project, a secret Microsoft device that appears to be a portable PC with gaming functionality. The rampant speculation was kick-started by a leaked video showing what looked like a minitablet PC running Halo. Microsoft confirmed the Origami Project video's authenticity to GameSpot, but said it was a year-old "concept video," and hinted the Halo footage was for demonstration purposes only.

Then, after promising revelations today on the teaser site origamiproject.com, Microsoft merely posted a new flash movie...which makes promises of more information to come. After asking, "Wondering where to find me?" the movie shows a montage of locations: a city skyline, tropical island, a snow-capped mountain, a subway system, the interior of a car, and a long shot of Rio de Janeiro. "I am everywhere you are...but never in the way" the site tells visitors via text, apparently promising a new level of portability in the device.
Even if this thing can play only one game - and we all know what that is- it will sell.

I wont buy it for gaming, unless it has two, count 'em, analog sticks. Playing an FPS with one stick and four buttons suck! As a Mini-tablet I am interested though, I think it would help with work. I am interested to see what it finally looks like.

I've already got one of these.

http://www.hp.com/products/tabletpc/

The thing is smaller than a magazine and has the same specs as the Origami project machines. It has bluetooth, Wi-Fi a Gforce4 and will play Guild Wars / Unreal Tournament 2004.

The stylus is pressure-sensitive so it is perfect for illustration right on the screen.

I've had it for 2 years and always wondered why the other tablet PCs are craptacular. It looks like I'm not alone.

I don't think it's going to be an iPod killer, because it can do more than just play mp3's... it's apparently going to be a portable version of XP.

I'd say it's more going to be a PDA killer, but PDA's are already a niche market, so I really don't see any killing going on at all.

It's the perfect hybrid of PDA and laptop, in one tiny package.

That HP tablet that Kamalot speaks of is over $1,000. If Origami is priced between $500~800 like the 'experts' are saying, I think it'll do well.

That being said, depending on specs and price, I want one. :)

If HALO comes out for this thing Ill have one as soon as its released. And MS knows this, look at how they are using HALO2 for PC to push Vista.

Honestly unless the version of Windows that's on it is knocked down in complexity a little bit I can't see it being both useful as a portable device, and cheap.

So it is tied in to Vista. Why am I not surprised?

I always wanted a tablet pc for graphic design. I love wacoms, but sometimes not being able to see exactly where your drawing can throw you off.

Thing is enormous if it is a gaming rig. And I have the same motorola phone as the guy near the end of the video.

Origami will use Microsoft's traditional platform model where Microsoft provides the software (and in this case the license and minimun specifications) and their hardware partners will manufacture and market the devices competitively. With the hardware design and features being speculated there is no way this model could be competitive enough to challenge Nintendo in the handheld market. The message behind Halo in the old concept video is, "gamers welcome." It's an option not a focus. Origami will be priced out of Nintendo's market.

Well, if they intend on people playing Halo on that there handheld, it better have 7.2^8 bajillion wangaflops, 2 gigs of ram at LEAST, a GeFoAtiS33DFX infinite transistor video card, and a pointy stick.

Fuck Halo on the PC.

The pointy stick is so I can jab my eyes out rather than support that travesty of a shit-wreck on the PC platform.

Well Halo for PC was poorly ported to the PC from what I remember and has obnoxious system requirements, The portable might not be up to scratch to run it.
