Gamespot (http://www.gamespot.com/) is reporting (http://www.gamespot.com/ps3/action/fearrespect/news.html?sid=6145177) that the Midway title, Fear & Respect, under the collaboration of Snoop Dogg and John Singleton has been canceled. Midway still has plans to work with the pair of stars in another title that has yet to be announced or discussed beyond that.

Thanks to Gamecloud (http://www.gamecloud.com/) for the tip.

Hmmm...maybe Midway didn't want to have the same disaster the 50 Cent game was/is? Or...?

Or 25 to Life, Crime Wars, True Crime: New York City. In fact, pretty much anything that isn't Grand Theft Auto.

That disaster sold more than a million copies, so they probably would want to repeat

That may be true but the gameplay was horrible. So prehaps I should have stated it differently or expanded upon my comments a bit more.

I think this is good news. Its so awful when you thing about all these crap games outselling the works of art. 50 Cent:Bulletproof sold more copies than Beyond Good and Evil and Pyschonauts combined.

It would seem Snoop took his own advice: "If the game is not fly, you must not buy" :)

Yeah, I doubt many game companies would complain if such a fate befell their game.

Which is such a shame. It's really way too bad that shitty games like 50 Cent can sell so well. Firstly because it means it's taking sales away from a much more deserving game, and secondly, because it justifies the way video game publishers are turning into Hollywood. "Screw this, we don't need an original idea, or good gameplay. That stuff's way too hard. What we really need is a brand name to slap onto this piece of shit that we otherwise would have cancelled at a prototype stage."

I fear for the video game industry these days. Publishers were a fantastic thing back in the day when the game industry needed someone to control it and help it become a viable industry (the dark days of no publishers on Atari comes to mind, when the game industry almost self-destructed). While it's even more of a viable industry than it was then, a lot of them seem to be sucking the soul out of games (here's looking at you, EA), and who wants to be a part of an industry without a soul. I'm just thankful that there are a couple of publishers out there trying to do different things (Namco & Katamari, Nintendo and the DS, etc.) that keep gaming fun and interesting. Because I can tell you this, if it's all 50 Cents in the future, the industry is in for some very rough times. And there's only so many times you can sell somebody the exact same game over and over (oh wait, maybe there's not. See Madden).

The stupid 50 Cent thing is just another example of how messed up this country is. When a game that's just about unplayable does better than 90% of games out there (as far as sales go) just because it has a popular brand name attached to it.
