It has been a while since hearing anything about Def Jam Rapstar, but today they've announced a new website (http://www.defjamrapstar.com/) has launched. There's still not much more in terms of info, but we've got some screens for you as well after the break.

that's a slick look.

I guess rap concerts have never really been a big thing, so they couldn't do it like Rock band or Guitar Hero Are rap... concerts(?) much different than rock shows? I've never been.

"Rapstar" a pun for a name--simply cringe-worthy. I don't see how anyone can play this without feeling like a complete poser :P Of all roles, rap uses that appellation of "street" to denote those whom are authentic. There's nothing "street" about a rapping-video-game :P

And this picture, "dope" just made me laugh so hard:

Perhaps there are kids young enough and into rap enough to feel no shame while playing this, I don't know >_>

No...

Rap having anything to do with "the street" was a 90's construct that is propelled by the dim understanding mainstream culture has of the culture.

I'd wager that 90% of the songs in here are just party music like any other pop songs. Just... rap.

It'll be interesting to see online, though. Suburban poseurs verses the people who actually live this stuff...

Dang... here I was hoping that this was going to be a worthy addition to the Def Jam fighting game series (at least as good as "Fight for NY", and FAR better than "ICON").

So it's a karaoke game? Yeah... not gonna fall for that again. I picked up Get On Da Mic (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Get_On_Da_Mic) as soon as it was released back when Karaoke Revolution was the funnest thing to happen to our videogame party night many a year ago. However, GODM was so bad, I never even broke it out for our friends. It had some good songs, but the word detection was completely random, and the interface was just awful. I traded it in first chance I got. Came with a nice USB mic, at least.

My recommendation for anyone who may happen to be REALLY into rap and wanting to spit on their mic is to wait for the reviews and make SURE that the voice detection actually works well enough this time.

Sadly, I think the good Def Jam fighting games are gone for good. Aki has been renamed and is now making shitty games like Ready to Rumble Revolution.
