I just put in my application, all PS3/PC fans are encouraged to do the same!

The site says it's not approving applications on a first come, first serve basis. So you might wanna wait a bit, as I had to reload SEVERAL times to be able to get past the first screen.

Good call, Tee. Although, your directions read like how to DDOS a site: reload SEVERAL times to be able to get past the first screen.

And damn if that music on the front page isn't completely catchy, addicting, and positivist from the very first second. FF music always rocks. I'd be signing up right now but I'm waiting for my SquEnix ID email confirmation to come in, which you need before you can join the beta.

From the site, prologue:
The answer lies within... the crystals. The cornerstone of all things...
Dear lord I'm sick of the "Crystals=power!" trope. That's one reason I liked materia from VII. Something new at least.

To be honest, it's not likely I'll stick with this game. I do want to taste it. But XIII, a more traditional narrative with an ending seems more my style, but that's not coming to PC now is it, dammit.

Site seems to be working good now, just finished signing up.

God I can't wait for this!

Give it a pass.
I do hope they have a nice twist on it. FF series is generally strong on story, which is a huge plus, so there is that.

Anyone else have to lie on the last question? I don't run fan website of any kind. Why was that not an option. Is it just that early and my eyes are not working?

I played XI for 5.5 years and my entire linkshell's departure from that game, some 20 strong, comes from our long years of loyalty, love and devotion to that game being met with the worst customer service I've ever encountered on the one occasion where we needed them to come to our assistance.

So I am taking a pass on FF XIV and any other monthly pay service provided by Square-Enix. I will still buy their games, but I won't pay them monthly for the privilege of being treated like absolute shit whenever I call them for assistance with anything.

They are an international company. They need to have international branches of support for their internationally distributed MMO. They can't just act as a black hole of ineptitude where your customer service calls vanish into the ether because everything is controlled from a tiny sliver of nothing in the Pacific Ocean where they could give fuckall about the non-Japanese community.

S-E=great game developer, even if I'm tired of their trend towards emo Japanese dickgirls saving the universe over and over again. I don't like what they're doing but I recognize that it's well made.

S-E's MMO support is shit. Gonna wait for Star Wars: Old Republic or DC Universe instead.

Signed up. Loved FFXI, and look forward to FFXIV if the gameplay is similar. Haven't found an MMO I really liked since leaving FFXI last year after 4 years, despite forays into WoW and EVE (though I suspect I'd like EVE more if I had friends there).

I hope this turns out well... FFXI was the only other MMO that pulled me away from WoW. Not for long but longer than EVE. Funny thing too is that I found myself getting into some RP while just admiring the environment and music which is something I never do.

yeah that was pretty funny. It's like they only wanted people who ran fan sites but the question was "Do you run a game related fan site?" so I think they must have overlooked it.

Compared to the simplicity of every Mario game, every FF game is Tolstoy by comparison :P

How much dialogue is there in a Nintendo game? "Sorry, the Princess is in another castle" x 8.

At least FF games make an effort. It may not be up to some of your standards, but it's entertaining nonetheless.

I applied last night.

I love FFXI and played since US release. I'm taking a few months break for the holidays and for beta if I get in.

I think my FFXI account has been deleted due to stagnation or to quote Square/Enix, "I must have deleted my POL account". So am i out of luckw ith the FFXIV or is a POL account even required?

One of the signup steps is to create/login to a Square-Enix account. If you don't have one they prompt you to create one. That sounds quite different from a Playstation On-Line account. So, go try for it.

Pretty sure POL there refers to PlayOnline (http://www.playonline.com/), which, if I'm not mistaken, is Square-Enix's online account system.

Nah, you're probably correct with the acronym. But, when I signed up they called it a "Square Enix account" with no mention of POL, so he may still be in the clear.

Oops, yes POL meant Playonline. Darn acronyms are evil! I still cry a little inside when I realize PDZ doesn't mean Panzer Dragoon Zwei sequel.....

Anybody get in yet on the PC side? I'm thinking I might have made a blunder about not choosing the PS3 beta (actually, I'll probably just sign up using a second email addy to do just that).

Pretty sure, despite the option in the application, that the PS3 version isn't active yet. I think this is only for PC.
