Boomtown (http://www.boomtown.net/) has some new screenshots (http://xbox.boomtown.net/en_uk/articles/art.view.php?id=10695) up of the horribly titled Far Cry Instincts Predator for the XBox 360.
Definitely the best ocean water to date. Looking good overall.

Water that isn't a flat plane? If those waves actually wash up on the beach, I'll be damn impressed. The current method of faking 'waves', while the waterline stays pinned to the shore (or lamely slides up and down on the y axis) has been anticlimactic.
Now we just need some sand and dirt surfaces that don't look and function like retextured concrete - and I'll be sold on this 'next gen' thing.

I dont know...
The water looks nice, but other than that it looks just like Instincts, which doesn't look as good as Far Cry PC. I kinda expected it to look better than the PC, this is the 360 and a couple of years later after all.
Have to see it in motion first of course.
Other than the water(which is always overblown) it's fugly.

Far Cry Instincts Predator doesn't exactly roll off the tongue does it? I concur the water does look excellent.

I thought the exact same thing. The water looks next-gen, but everything else I've seen on Xbox 1 (Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory).

Were there monsters in Far Cry Instincts?
I think the monsters ruined the original Far Cry for the PC, I didn't even finish it, and I usually finish games. Sure hope it's just regular people in the 360 version!

I feel the same way, Morpheus. I thought I was the only one. Once I was fighting mutated monkeys or whatever they were... I just said "... what?..." and did not enjoy the rest of the game nearly as much as I did the first part.
I did finish it, but it really ruined the game for me, and as a result, I don't love the game nearly as much as everyone else seems to.

I just about finished Far Cry, and the Trigens most definitely ruined that game.
*Spoilers Ahead*
I got to the Serious Sam kamikaze rip off zombies in Instincts and stopped playing it too.
*No More Spoilers*
Both games were ruined by the damn monsters.
I really wish they would just stick to humans, they do it so much better. I do not mind monsters, but only if they are done right.

Don't be fooled by how good it looks, it is still a flat plane. They are using advanced shaders to give the water its look.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that think the monsters ruined the game. I hope they stick to just humans in the 360 version, but the name doesn't really point in that direction. Sadly :(

Yeah, it's just some clever bump mapping. I'm wondering how little coves are going to look with this water since the waves all seem to be going the same direction. It would be weird to see waves appearing on one side of a cove's beach, and breaking on the other. I assume they're using some sort of wave crashing texture around the beaches to make things look more natural.
I also hope water that should be still, such as rivers and ponds, don't have the choppy wave look. Those should look more like the water in Far Cry.
I'm surprised how few people seemed to like fighting the Trigents in Far Cry. I really enjoyed how you had to change the way you played the game depending on if you were fighting humans or trigents. The humans were a lot of fun to pick off because of their AI, and the trigents were a lot of fun because they were so strong and deadly. Letting a human get the drop on you cost you some health, but letting a trigent get the drop on you meant death. It suddenly made the game more intense for me.
That said, I could run around in Far Cry picking off the humans with a pistol and M4 all day long.

Let me support that notion. Thief 1 had the same problem for me. /sigh

If they're using shaders to fake that much divergence from the plane, it's going to look like shit during gameplay. Changing the viewing angles will expose it as still being flat, and it's just ... ugh... gonna look like ass.

I wouldn't count on it. We've seen this waves in a video a while back.
What would actually be cool is if the boat you were in went up and down the waves, and if an explosion could create big as swell which majorly rocked your boat. See that would be proper next gen, fancy bump mapping is just gloss.

I thought the monsters in Far Cry were ok. They didn't exactly ruin the game, but they made it so much harder for me that I had to ratchet down the difficulty in order to finish it. Far Cry was one of my favorite gaming experiences, nothing like being stoned, hunting people in the jungle... Ah, I miss college.

I would not mind the Trigens if they were interesting.
If I actually felt nervous to see one. If when I encountered one I felt like they were killing me because they got the drop on me and were violent and powerful. Then I may have liked it. As is they are just a nuisance and an easy way to die cheaply.
I liked the humans because on Realistic they did things that just blew my mind. I have never been so impressed by AI as I was the first time I played Far Cry on my PC. Sometimes they would just react so logically and cleverly that I was glad they killed me, they had earned that kill.
As for liquid physics. I can only imagine the tech required to do fluids. I mean, rigid objects reacting with one another is one thing, but liquid physics reacting with other things has to be quite complex.

Were there monsters in Far Cry Instincts?
yes they were, because FCI Predator is a revamped version of Instincts with Evolution included, now with no glitches!
