Marvel takes the win this week with some really interesting books. Plenty of festive cheer from DC though!

DC Holiday Special 2009
Awww. The superheroes of the DC Universe try to spread some festive cheer with this one-shot written and drawn by Scott Kolins, Dustin Nguyen and Jay Torres among others. None of those names (other than Mr. Kolins) leap out in front of me but I like the idea of a Christmas Comic. With the likes of Deadman involved it'll be something better than watching Muppet's Christmas Carol again – won't it?
Green Arrow and Black Canary #27
Part confusing nightmare, part beguiling dream this latest arc has been doing something really different with the second feature thing that DC has been doing (top marks for value by the way). What you get is a fairly short first story that reflects on a rather messed up Green Arrow and then you get a really long second feature focusing on what is, maybe, the following arc? Once I pieced together an understanding of the last issue I really enjoyed it. Same again please!
Nation X #1
Now I only read Earth X a few months ago and I thoroughly enjoyed that. I understand that that isn't an opinion everybody shared but Marvel have sided with me and adopted a similar moniker for this new series spawning out of the back of Dark Reign's X-Men related events. There is now a mutant paradise (sort of) off the coast of California but will a world without us normal folks really be the best thing for the X-Men. You'll need to buy it to find out.
What If? World War Hulk #1
Is it a cash-in on some of the best Hulk material ever? Given that its World War Hulk related do I care? You can decide for yourself on the first one but the answer to the latter is a hearty 'No'. Featuring two stories, both with the potential for absolute awesome, this has a smooth looking cover by John Romita Jr. 'What if the heroes lost World War Hulk?' and 'What if Thor Participated in World War Hulk?' both sound like great questions to me. A no-brainer if you liked (read – loved) Planet Hulk and World War Hulk.
