Electronic Arts has just confirmed what has been rumored for a few months now. They're rebooting the Medal of Honor series with an all new game set in modern times. It'll be coming out next year.

Medal of Honor™ returns to the front lines, this time in today’s war. For the first time in the franchise’s 10-year history, Medal of Honor is leaving the WWII theatre and putting players in war-torn Afghanistan. Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: ERTS) today revealed that in 2010, Medal of Honor, an all-new first-person shooter game, will introduce the Tier 1 Operator: a relatively unknown entity directly under the National Command Authority who takes on missions no one else can handle. The development team has been working closely with Tier 1 Operators from the US Special Operations Community since the earliest stages of development to create the most authentic modern war experience. Inspired by real events, Medal of Honor reveals the mission of today’s most elite soldier – his will, his mindset and his uncompromising professionalism.

EA ANNOUNCES 'MEDAL OF HONOR'
Franchise Re-booted with New Development Teams, New Soldier, New Setting

Guildford, UK – December 2, 2009 – Medal of Honor™ returns to the front lines, this time in today’s war.

Medal of Honor is being built with a best-in-class single-player campaign. The Medal of Honor development team at EALA has been hand-selected by the studio leadership of General Manager Sean Decker, Executive Producer Greg Goodrich and Senior Creative Director Rich Farrelly. To compliment the single-player experience, EALA has enlisted the multiplayer expertise at EA DICE. This team will develop the multiplayer experience of Medal of Honor. These two studios are coming together to deliver a world-class Medal of Honor that is poised to re-set and re-boot the franchise for a new generation.

“When we first set out to reinvent Medal of Honor, we wanted to stay true to its roots of authenticity and respect for the soldier but bring it into today’s war. The Tier 1 Operator is the most disciplined, deliberate and prepared warrior on the battlefield. He is a living, breathing, precision instrument of war.” said Greg Goodrich, Executive Producer, Medal of Honor. “We are honored to have the rare opportunity to work closely with these men to create a game that shares their experience.”

“EA has always been an advocate for telling the soldiers’ story. The new Medal of Honor follows that tradition. We felt it was important to tell the story of today’s war and today’s elite soldiers via today’s most relevant medium – videogames,” said Sean Decker, VP and General Manager of EALA. “We are so proud to bring together two powerhouse development teams to make this game a reality; EA Los Angeles and EA DICE. Medal of Honor promises to be an unforgettable entry in the modern shooter genre.”

Tune in to Spike TV’s 2009 Video Game Awards on Saturday, December 12 at 8pm PST for a world-premier first-look at Medal of Honor.

This is getting really annoying. Why can't they just call it Medal of honor 3 or 4 or whatever number they're on? It didn't hurt Call of Duty 4's sales to put that number on there.

I think they need a total reboot if this is going to succeed. The last one was so horrible I've never been able to play past the first mission.

I really don't care what it's called... Allied Assault was one of the best WW2 shooters created. Granted that was 2015 developing (now IW) but still! :)

Could be cool. Looking forward to giving it a go.

Ooh, "Call of Honor, Medal of Warfare 2" Can't wait for the free dog tags with the collector's edition. :)

I'm cool with it, as long as they leave the MoH theme music untouched.

The last one was bad and had a small length.

Let's hope this one will rule.

What's the developer's name? "EA Studio X"? Any famous company? What's their old games?

Talk about jumping on the bandwagon.

I frankly don't see how they could make this sound similar to something that has already been done. I guess we'll wait and see what direction they take.

My dearest EA,

You and I have had a contentious love, hate relationship you know this. I've boycotted you for years and years due to your past questionable business practices. I continued to let you do what you do while I scoffed and flamed and wished ill on your company. But then something weird happened; you came out with two games, totally new IP that completely blew me away. I tried to ignore Mirror's Edge and Dead Space, but the more I consumed information on them the more I fell in love. My conviction crumbled. I finally broke down and purchased Mirror's Edge (and it's DLC). I played Dead Space. And they were awesome! It was like WOW, maybe everything I ever knew about this company was completely wrong. I became a reluctant fan. Way to go EA!

But then something else happened. Somewhere along the way you lost your Number One Third Party Publisher status to your competition. That I guess is what precipitated all this new IP (including Spore and Rock Band and whatever). I guess as a response to that you decided that copying your competition was the next best move? I mean they have Tony Hawk you came out with Skate. They have Guitar Hero, you created Rock Band (and yes I know you only distribute it, that's not the point).

And now hey look, they revamped their WW2 FPS in an all new modern setting and look Look LOOK! It's selling like hotcakes!! So again you feel the need to copy them and revamp your own WW2 FPS (which was incidentally CREATED by the team that did the competition's revamp. Coincidence?!?!?!)

Hey why don't you try to Buy that team and shut them down like you always do?

My point is, you all need to be trailblazers and pioneers. Stop copying what everyone else is doing and follow your own path. It will be hard at first. Sales may be slow, but you will build your reputation in the eyes of us gamers who will eventually reward you by buying more of your games.

Love, Techromage

How has nobody complained about that guy on the cover yet?

It looks absurd.

The transition of these games from historical, informational, classy war simulators to shootemups for backyard wrestling fans is complete.

Yeah, totally unrealistic. Here's what a real US special forces soldier in afghanistan looks like:

Samstag beat me to the punch, the guy on the cover is actually a pretty accurate representation of Canadian special forces operatives (JTF-2) as well.

Sadly, all EA needs to do is put lipstick on the pig, that is MoH Spearhead, and i would toss money their way. That game was the root of my existence for many years.
I hope they can revive their series as well as give CoD a run for their money. I suppose for the PC they just need to add dedicated servers, amirite?!

Yeah, if that guy wasn't involved with EA for the cover and I was him, I'd sue once the game is out for a portion of the profit. :)
