Per Major Nelson (http://www.majornelson.com/2006/02/24/update-from-infinity-ward-on-cod2/):

Dear Call of Duty Community:

As you recall, we announced plans that we were working on our second Title Update for Call of Duty 2, improving the Xbox Live multiplayer functionality. We’re happy to report that this update is currently in the final stages of testing and all is going well. In fact, we will be releasing it soon, so stay tuned. To give you a better understanding of what we have been working on, the second COD2 Title Update will have the following enhancements:

1. Player Lag has been addressed

Plus, we have added the following functionality:

2. Private Game Lobbies / Reserved Slots

3. Enabled the Live Host to set custom game options

4. Map Preferences setting

5. Post Game Lobbies (all players at end of match will return to their game lobby)

6. Enemy Player Name Notification

7. Ability for the Host to kick a player

8. In game Lobby - Game Type, Map and Host Notifications

Again, thank you for your support…and stay tuned for future updates!
Sweet, if they fix it, I may actually buy the game now.

Thank God. Honestly, I don't have much time for gaming these days, but when I am able to get online, I play CoD 2. The lack of a post-game lobby didn't bother me much since I was in private chat with my partner and I used the bug to make my own room and custom settings. What bothered me was the seemingly randomly generated lag. I could host a room of 12 just fine, but after about 10 minutes, everything would go to crap. No one new came in the game and no one in my house was online. Frustrating. Despite all that, I keep going back because I am way to addicted to the gameplay.

to be honest, everytime i hosted a server i had no lag issues, keep in mind i do have a pretty decent cable upload/download going on. im assuming alot of people who are playing has adsl which could be a lag problem there. i made it a point of mine to ask the host "what connection are you using" i say jus bout 90% of the time i asked and a person said cable i had no lag in the game

Ok, I may be out of date as I havent played CoD online since launch day... but, whats the maximum players per game now? I seem to recall it being 8, and seem to recall 4vs4 being rather lame.

About time. I can't wait to coordinate a game with more than one friend at a time.

And Vjornaxx, how does that bug work exactly?

'The Bug'

You need two people for this to work.

The host should start up CoD2 and the second player should start up any other game (a low tech arcade game like Gauntlet works best.

The host should create a SYSTEM LINK game and set the desired parameters. DO NOT START THE GAME

The second player should send the host an invite.

The host should accept the invite, but when it asks if you are sure, you should select no. When the host accepts the invite, it makes the system link game into an open internet game with the selected parameters. You select no to 'are you sure' to remain in the lobby. The lobby has a 16 player limit.

Second player should now join the host. This is why it's best to use a low tech arcade game... because is shuts down faster and you can have CoD2 in the drive.

Note that the selected parameters are USUALLY the parameters of the internet game. about 20% to 30% of the time it will be the map you selected with a different gametype.

Fuckers have got to start releasing Windows/Linux based servers for 360 games so we can start getting some decent servers.

Sweet! I've been loving the single player on this (Veteran is a beast! Damn those achievments!) so a functioning multiplayer would be awesome.

Die Ameri...err I mean Nazi scum! :D

I'm glad to hear about the patch, but why couldn't they make it so more than one person could play on one box online? I realize that would be a more complicated patch than what they did release, but it has got to be possible. I have 3 roommates and myself who like the game, but we only have one 360, so it is either a 4 person game among ourleselves, or an online game with only one of us playing. It kinda sucks.
What I don't understand is why developers don't copy Halo 2 when it comes to online play. The party system and matchmaking worked better than anything on the console market thus far. Why not use something that you know works well?
CoD2 is an awesome game, don't get me wrong. But it could be so much better with a decent online functionality.

Fuckers have got to start releasing Windows/Linux based servers for 360 games so we can start getting some decent servers.

What they should have done is what Electronic Arts does with Battlefield 2 - they should be hosting their own Call of Duty 2 Xbox 360 servers (with a minimum of a 16 player limit) on high-end server PC's so that there are about 20 good servers for people to join.

If they did something like that, you would help sell a lot of copies of the game.

Activision used to do stuff like that. Remember when they had ActivNet for Mechwarrior 2 Netmech and Interstate '76 (The car-to-car combat game that no one has yet beaten.).

Thats a good start, but its better to be releasing the server so that people can host there own servers. Since I'm from New Zealand I'm sensitive to the fact that the closest servers that a publisher are going to host wlil be in Australia, if that close at all. I wont be back in New Zealand for a few years yet, but it's an issue that I've still seen a satisfactory answer to.

This is majorly excaberated in NZ as upload speeds for broadband connections in NZ are from 128 kbps (most common) to 256 kbps (if you are really lucky).

i hope this is true. I bought, played, and sold my copy because of online issues. I almost bought it again when a rumor similiar to this was announced. I still love the game, but online blows.
