I had to jump into the forums to find the link to the trailer, but it does indeed look pretty amazing. I wonder about the depth of the mod - do we simply go out, shoot up cylon raiders and base ships, and fly back. Or is there a mission-based system, which would be most excellent.

What a wonderful idea! I applaud them for potentially resurrecting interest in FS2

Yeah, I posted something about this a couple months ago, I think (in forums, though, I believe, not as a news item).
it does look damn good. I'm hoping like crazy it comes to a full conclusion.

Unfortunately it appears that this mod is never going to get finished. I've been following it for a long time and the date for any kind of release keeps getting pushed out and out and out. They are now saying to look for a release in the Fall.
You can find an alpha buid that they released internally by searcing around some torrent sites, but it's hard to get running and doesn't really work.

Too bad, I would be all about some online bg action.
Holy crap, this looks awesome. That trailer is BADASS.
This post reminded me how great Freespace 2 was and how there hasn't been anything like it since. So depressing :(.

Is it just me or does just about every link on that page go... right to that same page. Tried it in both firefox and IE and they had the same thing. Is it just me?

I reinstalled FS2 a few months ago in anticipation of this. Here's hoping it's decent at least.

Freespace and Freespace 2 were a lot of fun. I sorely miss spaceflight sims/RPGs like it and the venerable Wing Commander series. I could so see that as being something the console market would pick up on, but there just must not be enough of a demand. If I remember correctly, someone did a Babylon 5 mod at some point, too, though I think it was also in the 'almost ready but never released' phase.

I can't see playing a game like Wing Commander without my trusty flight stick , no way can I play it with a controller. Thats just me though.

I just realized I never did finish FS2. Man... I need to go dust off one of my joysticks and see if it still works.
Of course, if they get this mod working, I'm all over it like the proverbial dirty shirt... with a dusty joystick and an old copy of FS2, obviously.

Feel for we poor pilots who resorted to using the keypad in those heated space dogfits.

'Derelict' is pretty good. You'll need SCP/FS2_Open to run the SCP edition though. That will upgrade the graphics to ones more suitable to modern hardware. :)

That is a very well done trailer, I have to go dig for my FS2 disks I guess.
