Runic Games just sent out a tweet (http://twitter.com/runicgames/statuses/6058527146) regarding the boxed version of their Diablo-esque title, Torchlight, announcing that the game will be available for pre-order in "about a week".
Exciting news - the box version of Torchlight will be available for pre-orders in about a week from Encore USA's site and Amazon.com!
I would buy this in a heartbeat if they added multiplayer.

I really enjoy it, but it goes from hardcore looting to casual, "I'm bored, what can I do" very quickly. Without the satisfaction of being able to show off my badass drops then it loses its appeal for me sooner than I'd like. Not to say it isn't fun, but I don't really see it lasting much longer for me.
That said, for $20 you really can't go wrong. If you like Diablo, and you can play without the need for showing off, then this will be one of the best game to dollar ratios of the year.

So, will the boxed version be the latest one? 1.2?

Will the boxed version have Steam activation? If it does I'll just buy the Steam version, since game discs and boxes I can only use once are useless to me. ;)

I asked Runic Games and they responded (http://twitter.com/runicgames/statuses/6064434800)with the following:
It will NOT require Steam activation; it is also the most current build, as we've updated them along with everyone else!
Thanks for the reply guys! Isn't Twitter great? :D

It's great fun, but it needs more content in a big, big way. Once you finish the main quest line, you have an unlimited randomized "Shadow Vault" dungeon, but that gets old (re: recycled levels). It has potential, but I for one think they better strike while the iron is hot and get more content moving out there. I know I'm not really looking to go back to my character in a year's time, that's for sure. I'm interested now, but other stuff will draw me away soon enough.

Exactly, it gets tiring fast. But 20 bucks, hey, awesome stuff for the money, can't complain.
The real benefit is you are paying 20 bucks for a great engine that will produce endless mods. You will get bored playing the regular game, but essentially are buying endless fan support for a never ending string of mods.

I might spend another $20 on the boxed version just because I like it so much. For those that are bored quickly, check out the Runic forum mod threads (http://forums.runicgames.com/viewforum.php?f=20&sid=1867f4a0f1b7af282949ea0a60cde99f). It's a whole new game(s). You heard me right, I said game(s).
