And we're back! After taking a weekend off to go watch real people beat the crap out of each other (UFC 105 was awesome BTW) it's back to fictional characters. A mixed week, lets have a look at it.
- DC (http://www.dccomics.com) - Marvel (http://www.marvel.com)- Image (http://www.imagecomics.com) - Top Cow (http://www.topcow.com) - Dark Horse (http://www.darkhorse.com) - IDW (http://www.idwpublishing.com/)- Aspen (http://www.aspencomics.com/) - Wildstorm (http://www.dccomics.com/wildstorm/) -
Teen Titans #77
You know, this book was in a bad way for a long time but with the team roster being cleaned out a little and a creative team that seems to have a solid plan for the crowd of super-teens there are green shoots of it returning to some of its former glory. This Blackest Night issue features the mass of dead Titans which will be great. I'm curious to see whether Superboy and Robin (who knows which one?) will return to the book.
Gotham City Sirens #6
Gotham City Sirens may sound like a tie-in book but its brave enough to do some cool plot lines. The supposed return of Joker and then the switcharoo led to #4 and #5 being absolutely brilliant issues. The art is cool and it has that endearing quality that all of the best villain books do. Your routing for them because you know the characters just as well as their nemesis'. It might be difficult to convince yourself of a purchase among the dozens of bigger name books but it is entirely worth the coin.
Image United #1
I'm not actually that big on the idea of the various Image and related studios' comics characters being bundled in together. I don't know if the plan is to create an Image Universe but I think thats a bad idea. A lot of the books under their umbrella succeed because they lack the restraints of Marvel and DC. Regardless, this is one of those 'must-flick' comics where you need to at least see what they do with it all. Besides, Liefeld is doing some of the art. Anybody up for some disaster spotting?
Powers #1
I keep meaning to pick up some of the paperbacks of the original Powers stuff. A friend highly recommended it and, mostly on his word, I'm recommending this new ongoing series. Bendis is on board as is Michael Oeming ready to deliver a familiar, heady mix of detective work and super hero action. Includes a letter column, how very creator-owned?!
