Gamesindustry.biz has posted a quote (http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/dedicated-servers-for-aliens-vs-predator) from developer Rebellion, indicating that the PC version of Aliens vs. Predator will include a dedicated server.
The PC version of licensed shooter Aliens vs Predator will support dedicated servers, according to a new statement made by British developer Rebellion.
"Despite rumours, Rebellion has always been planning to support dedicated servers for Aliens vs Predator PC and we can now officially confirm that this is the case. Rebellion has always appreciated fan support," said Rebellion CEO Jason Kingsley. "We're really looking forward to the release of Aliens vs Predator as much as you guys are!"

Is a console port with dedicated servers still just a console port?

This whole "does it have dedicated servers" thing that is going around is getting extremely silly.

Better than a Console port without I would say. I mean, the game is going to be what it will be, regardless of what we think or want of it. But the more it is, the better I say.

I doubt if AVP is a console port with it being DX11 and all, but who knows I along with most people haven't played it yet...

Lost Plant was one of the first games to use DirectX 10, and that is a straight console port. It even displays Xbox-buttons during the tutorial.

True that, but then it was developed by Capcom which is renowned for console ports.

What do you mean? What game came out recently that doesn't have dedicated servers??!?!

OFP:DR. What happens when they try to make tactical games for consoles, I guess.

It's a sad day when dev's have to confirm something which used to be a standard feature no questions asked. :(
Good news anyway, hopefully the game is actually decent.
Treyarch 2010: Call of Duty 7 will have mouse and keyboard support.

What I'm getting at is the fact that everyone has to announce that they have dedicated servers, its silly!

If all you had to do was tell your customers something to guarantee higher sales wouldn't you do it? Remember this is the "ship now patch later" generation.

Someone needs to make Dedicated Server: The Game. :D
The best part? It would be a table-waiting sim.

Good to hear ... but I won't thank them for it. This is an expectation from PC gamers.
Will the game also support mouse and keyboard?

What was once given freely will now be sold to us as a special feature, tis the age of the DLC.

Yeah, it's pretty pathetic that devs can say dedicated servers are now some kind of "feature" in their PC game. Not like it's been standard for all PC multiplayer games for over a decade, or anything. Oh fuck no.
Just the same, I'd much rather have a game WITH dedicated servers than one without.
