Ive been a spectator of marketplace premium content since launch and I told myself I wasnt going to spend one point on anything until it was a worthwhile item or an oblivion download, so tonight I downloaded the 360 theme and gamer pictures.
It bugs me that they would upload the ancient trailer from last years E3 though, as it didnt even really look that great back then. It's compressed or low bit-rate or something and it seems to be one of those fuzzy medium-quality HD trailers and not the ones that look as if it were realtime. Plus, I'm guessing that the graphics have been tweeked since then.
I cant wait to get my hands on this game, it's the reason I preordered my 360 to get it on launch in the first place.
The theme pack is pretty decent, its got a pic of a thief character and 2 pictures of the knight from the wallpapers on the official website and one of the blades is a render/wallaperish image of one of those oblivion armor guys that you see in the end of the E3 Demo videos coming out of the gate.
The theme and gamer icons are themed all similar to the wallpaper with the CG looking knight standing, or on a horse or wahtever in front of a burning castle, except a few like the one I have on my gamercard which has a knight with a black background and 2 variants of the oblivion logo, one with flame background and one with the paper looking background similar to the style of the standard oblivion packaging.
My guess is that they have old trailers for every upcoming game including the old gears of war HD trailer, the old MASS EFFECT trailer and the old HD Too Human trailer and theyre just going to hold them off and upload them to the marketplace when the game release is 1 or so months into the future unless E3 comes around with another newer version. So far the marketplace seems bare, it seems as if theyre holding these old trailers back instead of just releasing them all at once because theyre already available on the pc. Maybe they wont be so lazy when the PS3-online rolls into town.//

Let me understand please, why would you spend your money on themes?!?!
Dont get me wrong, im like 40$ into the black on shit on xbox live. Downloaded pretty much every game thats worthwhile ( GW, MM, Gauntlet, Joust, Smash Brothers, etc... ), so im not anti live. Im just not seeing the value in the rest of the shit thats offered.
That, and I have to say, when I saw tonight "New ES:Oblivion" downloads, I damn near popped wood thinking there was a demo. Sadly, just a trailer and a lame attempt to pick my pocket.

Well, its the first content I've purchased on live since the halo2 map packs so its been a while for me. Ive been waiting for a elder scrolls 4 for years so I'm glad I can buy themes and gamer pics to show my support for the game and hopefully it further supports companies like bethesda to keep making games like Oblivion. Plus I was getting tired of my old icon/theme and didnt like any of the other free ones.

That was the plan all along, hang out on EvAv for a year, making the occasional post, feel things out. Then, when Oblivion content comes out which costs like, 2 dollars, SWARM down for the kill. I collect my cheque tomorrow, later suckers!

I don't even see the point in buying readily available games. Sure, GW is worth paying for, but come on, this is an xbox fucking 360. You're telling me you'd rather play GAUNTLET than a game that's actually made for the fucking system?
And honestly, is there anyone in the gaming world who doesn't already own at least one Gauntlet game? I find that very hard to believe.

I got the theme cause I'm very excited for this game and I love the way my x360 now has now be 'Obliviated' for like 2 bucks. Looks tight, MS are some crafty fuckers that's for sure.

Yeah...Micropayments are tricksy. On one hand you are like, "Damn why should I pay for this shit" and on the other hand you are like "Well..it does only cost as much as a Soda, and probably gives me pleasure slightly longer"

Heres some pictures of the Oblivion theme that I snapped with a digital camera. Note that my craptacular dashboard doesn't display the ads due to an apparent glitch involving me making my xbox live account two weeks before I turned 18 back when I signed up during the original xbox live beta years ago... Oh well.. A programmer at microsoft (JethroXP) said that they wouldnt be able to fix that issue for several months for the people who are experiencing it, so basically it probably means that its not going to happen, but at least now my dash has a new theme to take my eyes off of the glaring glitch that I see every time I sign on to Xbox Live.

I especially like the thief themed blade. I can't wait to see what its like to play a thief now that they have some of the talent from the old thief games who worked on that aspect of gameplay for Oblivion.

Nath5000, way off topic, but how the hell did you get such a gamer score? I take it you can win them playing on live, and not just from hitting acheivements???

I just rented a lot of games around launch and got a few gamerscore here and there in a bunch of them. Some of them like call of duty 2 I got all 1000 and some games were easy to get the 1000 like King Kong(which you just have to beat) and NBA2k6(which you just have to set up a really long game).
I think my gamerscore is reflective of someone who plays a lot of games but doesnt master every one, I have friends who have played less games but have gamerscores around 8000.
I'd prefer a game that has tons of achievements and you unlock them all over the place doing small things rather then a game that has 5 achievements worth a lot of points each.
I wonder how oblivion will work? Considering its such a HUGE game I wonder if there will be a ton of achievements or if there will just be a few. Hopefully a lot. Id rather have someone look at my score list and see all the neat things that I found then to have them see that I beat the 5 easy things to do in a game like the 2k sports games do, even if its harder to get points.

In the latest interview, I heard there will be a LOT of achievements, not just a few huge ones. I'm actually stoked about that, and I'm sure I'll be very impressed if I see someone with 1000 points in Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.
More so than let's say....King Kong.

Yup, on the gamingsteve podcast Pete Hines said they put acheivements in to get people to explore the different things in the game. That should be the point of them too, to point players at different things and expierence things in different ways. Condemned does a good job of this.

unfortunatly games like the 2ksports games unbalance the whole points system by making it extremely easy to get large numbers of points, rendering the entire gamerscore system pretty pointless, in my opinion. The actual gamerscore is pretty useless although looking through friends achievements is still worthwhile.

I don't think its useless, just because I can look through people's lists and see what games they've played and how far they've gotten in them, and its pretty cool. In a game of PDZ, one guy asked me where the birds are in Condemned, and we got into a nice conversation that didn't involve either the word "nigger" or nutsacks, so it was kinda neat.

Re Oblivion and Gamer points, from IGN
From what we've gathered on the site and considering how large the game is, securing the full 1,000 achievement points for Oblivion will be the most difficult task yet on the Xbox 360. It sounds like Oblivion will have 50 total achievements, spread out to enable players to get gamerscore points by following the main plotline, by exploring the game's vast world, and the toying with the various character classes. Some of the specific achievements mentioned include one for completing the initial hour or two of the game, which consists of basically various training scenarios as the main plot is established. Second, the site listed that you'll unlock an achievement for the first time you manage to close an Oblivion Gate.
The site's text was less specific about which achievements would follow, though it did say that you'd get gamerscore points as you leveled up within each of the game's factions. However, since there are four factions in the game (Fighter's Guild, Thieves Guild, Dark Brotherhood and Mage Guild), it will take a lot of work and time to net all of them since these achievements require you to play through as different character classes. In addition, the write-up hinted at a number of secret achievements, so players obsessed with collecting all possible achievement points for the games they own will have an absolutely monumental task ahead of them when they tackle Oblivion. As before, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is still officially scheduled to release in early 2006.

Yeah, I didnt say that the achievements were useless, I said the actual gamerscore numbers are useless because some are impossible and some games give away the points very easily.

Yeah the overall number is a bit deceiving, but looking at it on a game by game basis works just fine.
I think over time developers will start to utilize the system better and things will average out.

Cool. I was wondering how The Gerbs (live.xbox.com/en-US/profile/profile.aspx?pp=0&GamerTag=The+Gerbs) got that new gamerpic. Gotta love the Friends List.
So, when are these 3000 OXM points I've accumulated going to turn into something good?

Yeah, some games like Kong and Madden were lazy in their point distribution, but newer games it seems are doing a better job now that the system has been established. In a yr or 2 from now when there are a truck load of games out and lots of people have had time to play many games, those 1000 points from Kong will be a small fraction of a much larger cumulative gamerscore that was developed by many titles over a longer period of time.

Those silly IGN n00bs. It's perfectly possible to play through all 4 guilds with one character. Yeah, advancement might be a bit tough if you haven't spread out your 7 major skills among the 3 archetypes "just right" to not have to level minors to advance, but still... that obviously came from someone who never played Morrowind.

Call me jaded, but I don't even get excited about stuff like that anymore. Demos used to be standard, and we always got lots of cool information and things to download for games in develpment. Now demos are few and far between (not to mention huge downloads with little gameplay) and the things that you can download for games mostly suck.
Meh.

I really, really, really, really, really, really want to play this game. I don't have a PC that can run it, and I don't really plan on getting a 360 - way too expensive and this is the only game I am really interested in. I don't suppose I will get a good experience by just buying a copy and staring at the box?

I know this because I killed the wrong guy and was locked into the guild I had chosen without the ability to proceed. I had to hack my game in order to reset my guild affiliation and force myself into the other two guilds and at that point I just didn't care any more. So yeah, while you could be in all the minor guilds (mage, knight, fighter, etc.) you couldn't be in the three main guilds at the same time.

I just downloaded the trialer. The game looks good, but I really hope Bethesda tweaked the framerate and animation a bit more. Knowing how they are perfectionists, they probably did by now. Oblivion is one of the reasons why I got a Xbox 360. Yes, I know it's for PC, but I'm not spending thousands of dollars on a PC to play one game. Sorry to all of you PC fans out their.
