According to Nintendo of Europe, the information recently released in the UK Official Nintendo Magazine stating that the Revolution base also acts as the power supply is simply not true.

“We have not announced or shown any details regarding the power supply for the console,” Nintendo Europe told SPOnG today. “The stand is just a stand, nothing more nothing less.” Nintendo, somewhat kindly, attributes the official magazine's blunder to a “production error.”Is it ironic that this came from Spong (http://news.spong.com/article/9695/NOMUK:+Cover+Lies+Compounded+by+Bogus+Power+Brick+ Claims?cb=362)?

Sounds like the new Official Nintendo Magazine in the UK is off to a good start.

I didn't even know the last one (which has been going for years, since around the early 1990's/late 1980's or there abouts) had been canned until about a month ago when Future made a big deal about the first issue of their new one.

LMFAO. That is the funniest response ever.
Although it fucking sucks that this is a rumor. God damnit :P

Stand is just a stand.
Hahaha.. Inspirational words from Nintendo.
Damn, that's so good

At the same time, Nintendo often says things that aren't "official" are "incorrect". They did that for quite awhile w/ the DS Lite; saying it didn't exist, not just a "no comment".

Who'd put a power supply like that directly under the console?

Doubt it would get as hot as an xbox360 one, or anything like that, so it seems like an idea. You could also have the console exhaust fan route through the Powersupply as extra cooling. It sounds like a win situation to me. You can actually put the console on a shelf and not worry about the huge powersupply brick hanging down. It would just be an ordinary sized cord.

People put power supplies in consoles...why not under? :)

People put power supplies in consoles...why not under? :)Usually they're put in the back or top, instead of under all the sensitive electrical components. Even small power supplies output heat. And there's also the fact that you couldn't lay it flat without having the empty stand sitting there. And the Revo power supply will probably be bigger than the stand is.

Stylistically it would have been neat though as I said in the rumor thread.

Is a Nintendo rumor not being true actually news? They're never true. :p

The rumor never seemed right to me anyway. If you use the "power stand" only when standing the console up- then what would you use for power when you laid the console down? A separate power supply doesn't fit with what I think is Nintendo's minimalist approach.

advertising, marketing, pretty much anyone who didn't have to think about the effects of the heat from the PS having to pass directly THROUGH every piece of electronics first

I don't know if anyone thought of this or not.. but the powersupply could be in the base. Then here's what i'm thinking. Maybe the base is ATTACHED to the console. (I mean, when would you ever need the console w/o the base? unless it is battery powered, but i doubt it)

Ok, so judging from this picture
http://www.filerushnews.com/images/album180/aab.jpg

Imagine if you will, if someone put that on its side (horizontal).. well I'm thinking, just take a plastic piece that is a mirror image of the BASE and put it on the other side. Bam, now you have a horizontal console that is very symmetrical, looks good, and will have airflow under it (as the bases would sort of jut beyond the console itself..)

I think that would work pretty well. Assuming the console itself is square, and sits in the base a bit, this would give a very cool futuristic design. Both rear corners of the console basically IN the "bases".. it would create a sort of odd hexagon shape (or maybe some other shape :P)

Sometimes a stand is just a stand.
