Eurogamer (http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=63011) reports that God Of War 2 is up for release in a year.
God of War 2 is being prepared for release on PlayStation 2 in the USA next February, with a PAL release to follow, Eurogamer has learned, and Sony reckons the series has the potential to expand to PSP, PS3, mobile and even film.

It wouldn't be out in a year if that was the case. I'm guessing that this is probalby being done by another team, using the existing game, with just more content.

Why on Earth would I want to buy a game for the PS2 in 2007 when the PS2 is already old and outdated in 2006?
Bring it out on PS3...that seems like a no brainer. Playing the PS2 is painful these days...reminds me of my PC from 7 years ago.

I just bought the first one last week and man, it's wicked fun... I think of it as:
(Devil May Cry + Mortal Kombat + Resident Evil 4) = God of War
As for releasing it on the ps2... I don't know about you but I won't be buying a Ps3 until I see a price drop and some good games or at least games that interest me. And the Ps3 is supposed to be backwards compatible isn't it?

Heh, I just beat God of War last night. And saying that playing the PS2 is painful because it reminds you of a 7 year old PC is a statement that implies that you probably haven't played God of War. At no point during the game did I think "This technology is old and outdated!" On the contrary I kept thinking, "Damn this game is pretty!"

As long as the original team is doing this, the game should be serious business. The first one was nothing short of perfect.
I do sort of hope they dont make it into a movie. I know that sounds odd, but the game had a sort of Cinematic quality that just doesnt need to be reproduced in a shitty way. The narration was incredible, and the setting is killer. They just need to let that be. Sequels abound, but no movie, PLEASE.

LMAO...I agree with you whole heartedly.
I understand that everyone here is a "true gamer" but the other 99% of the world actually enjoys both gameplay and technological bells and whistles.
I've been spoiled by PC graphics so the PS2 simply isnt immersive enough as it used to be.

didn't the guy who produced god of war say it nearly killed him, that in future he was going to try and keep some perspective on the games he makes and not work all the hours of the day and worry about all the tiny details.
clearly that's why it was such a great game, he's kinda made me not want to buy anything he works on in the future! if killing urself is what it takes to make a game of awesomeness such as that, then kill urself is what i expect!! :mad:

I'm sure Sony would prefer it come out for the PS3 since potential buyers might chose to stcik with the PS2 to play this instead of upgrading.

I watched my old roomate play the first one, what detail and a fatastic level of design. Now that I have a ps2 again I'll have to check that out.....when it comes out in a year or so.

God of War 2 on PS2 screams two things to me:
1. Rape of a franchise
2. SCEA has no idea what the hardware for the PS3 is going to be.
Oh and FYI if you have a PS2 and you are only going to play one game on it, its got to be guitar hero.
And if you want to buy a second game, don't and get the second guitar.
After that, pick up GoW.
GOW was great and in no way inferior to any of the current gen titles. Sharpness, detail plus a smooth framerate. Above all however, the gameplay was just damn slick and fun.
I'll be content playing GOW2 on my ps2 in a year while you next-gen fluffies suffer through generic shooter #15. :)

I think im in the minority here in not wanting to have spend around $400 or so on a whole new system so i can play a good game. So it isn't running on the next gen, big whoop, i rather be playing it early next year then god knows whenever the PS3 is released.

Folks need to quit kicking dirt on the current gen. If it's not a "next gen" title it's not automatically garbage, nor does it HAVE to be a next gen title to matter. Zelda would have been fine released this spring for just the GC. God of War 2 would be fine released for the PS2. I'm tired of every time a Xbox or PS2 game comes out people are crying over next gen. Most of these companies have already announced they're not just going to abandon the current gen. It's still probably much cheaper and in some cases more effective to develop for the current gen rather than next.
That said, the real question is will there be more jubblies?
I want Guitar Hero Bad, but you can't get it over here in Germany. 50$ shipping is a tad much :)

Because you're a gamer who realizes a good game is a good game, even if the graphics aren't 100% bleeding edge.
If graphics are so important, you might have more fun playing screenshots of xbox360 games in development.

It does look great, especially for a PS2 game. However, there's no way I'd confuse it for an Xbox 360 or PS3 title. And yes, I've played God of War, and I own an Xbox 360.

Nothing thing new. David Jaffe has already stated in a number of articles that he is working on a psp version of 2, and a ps3 and ps2 version of GOW2. He also is working on a psp title that he had his team rip the cinematics out of because he believes they "take away" from the story.

Ok, I wasnt being very clear. I dont really consider the Xbox 360 to be next gen yet, even though it is. I'm not quite ready to say that until I see something I cannot see anywhere else. So far, the computer offers comprable graphics, but not at a comprable price tag. Of course, they didnt produce too few of my computer. :) Dont get me wrong, I do want one very badly, BUT, my point was, God of War looks great for a title from the LAST generation of games. I'm so used to refering to the last generation as "next generation" that's where I'm confusing you.
Hell no, it's not going to look as good as a 360 game.

Crazy people, I say.
I'd rather be able to pay $50 for a sequal to that Orgasmatronic of an original game (1st God of War is easy top 5 games of this gen for me). If it's a PS3 game, then that means I'll have to pay an indeterminate amount of money for the game, a larger indeterminate amount of money for the system, the devs will have to work a shitload harder/longer to learn a new API and create entirely new artistic resources...
But if it's a PS2 game, then *everyone* with either a PS2 OR a PS3 will be buying it. There's a limit to the stupidity of crying that a game needs to be "next gen", and God of War had such spectacular gameplay and flow that it defies the stupid-ass "gen" definition. The sooner they get that fucking game released, on ANY system, the happier I, and most gamers, will be.
Cell != cheap to develop for. That, and GoW2 was probably in dev since the release of the 1st one, which greatly precludes usage of the PS3 dev kit.
